“fantastic location, great staff, moderate prices”

We found about this hostel over the internet, months before coming to Belgrade. We arrived on Christmas eve, it was a rather cold night and the guy in the reception offered us a drink, which was quite cool. We chatted with him. Our room was delightful, small, with view on the river, as the hostel is floating, and cosy. Next morning the breakfast consisted of a toast - or more - and coffee. All the people on staff are really helpful and gave us great tips on what to do. As we shared the bathrooms, we weren't disappointed, because they were always clean. We met a lot of great people there and planning to return there. As the hostel is not on the city, you take a bus that passes every 10 minutes and costs like nothing. I strongly recommend this hostel to anyone who's not accustomed to hostels because this one is marvelous and is the perfect thing between a hotel and a hostel: really great facilities as hotel but welcoming and cozy as a hostel. I ll be returning here that's for sure.

We travelled to Belgrade for the second time, and as we where taking a lesurely stroll along the river we stumbled across Arkabarka hostell. We thought we'd go and check it out, we were welcomed by the friendly staff who where quick to offer us a cold beer, (most welcome on a very hot day!). We went and sat out on the balcony overlooking the Danube (superb), and then were given a tour of the facilities. We were sooo impresssed we imediatly went back to our original hotel, checked out and returned to Arkabarka for the remainder of our stay in Belgrade! Factastic location, not just for the river and the park but all of the douzen apon dousen of floating bars, clubs, restaurants and the casino, that are in walking distance. We'll be returning here on furture trips to Belgrade!

“Great scenery, poor facilities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2009

ArkaBarka Hostel is a great idea that hasn't quite materialised yet. The hostel itself is a floating house on the outskirts of Belgrade. It is not easy to get to if you are travelling by public transport- you have to take a circuitous bus which drops you far from the river, not ideal if you're carrying heavy bags. It's worth the walk to stay on the river itself which is beautiful. My boyfriend and i were travelling round Eastern Europe at a very hot time of the year. We arrived from a disastrous early morning train journey, only to be informed that the electricity only worked "occasionally" and there was no possibility of a fan, let alone air conditioning. Although the setting is great and the hostel perfectly comfortable, I would not suggest staying here in the height of summer.

“Great Place to Stay in Belgrade”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2009

We stayed here in May 2009, and loved it! The only bad (ish) thing I can say about this place is that there is no sign on the path, or even any address number, so after a long drive, it was also a long search for us to find the right place (if you aren't from Belgrade, the address could be kind of confusing)! If you are driving, you need to park about a 5 minute walk away from the hostel itself, but it's free and safe to park your car there. However, once we finally found the right place (after walking past it 3 times!) we were so happy with it. It was 36 euro a night for a private room, and you get a welcome drink (a cold beer after a long drive is MOST welcome!!) upon arrival, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. We were given a map, and the manager gave us detailed instructions (that he wrote out on our map) of the best places to go in Belgrade for food/drinks/whatever we were after. He even got a taxi and got the driver to show us the best streets to go to get dinner etc. We stayed in a private double room with shared bathroom. We found that as the place is quite small, we never had any problems with having the bathroom to ourselves. As mentioned before, you get coffee (very good) and a toastie for breakfast with your room rate. We found the staff to be super helpful and extremely friendly, (as everyone in Belgrade was), and it is in a great position on the Danube river, only about a 5-10 minute walk to the all floating bars/restaurants. It's only about a 3 minute walk to the bus stop, where you can get buses into down town Belgrade about every five minutes (the bus takes about 3 minutes). The only other thing is to beware of the mosquitoes outside the hostel, as it's on a river, you will get bitten at dusk, so be prepared with repellent. All in all, this is a great, super friendly boutique hostel, and I can't see how anyone would have anything negative to say about it whatsoever. I would stay here again any time, and hope to return soon!

In the middle of a lovely park full of walking, running and cycling routes, just a 10 minutes trip by bus to the centre of the city, you will be astonished by this hostel floating on the Danube river.
Great guys from the staff, great music all day long, awesome view, peaceful and quiet place.
I really felt like at home, definetely a wonderful place to choose if you're going to Belgrade.
I will surely return
