“Good location, friendly hosts.”

It would be my first hostel experience, but it turned into a homey experience of 4 nights. HCS has 2 main qualities: a central location and an especially friendly staff. Hostel has 2 sections. Although I didn’t inspect the main section, I believe it is more like a conventional hostel with dorms. I had booked for a private room so they put me in the new section which is an apartment in an old building facing the rear street. It consists of 5 rooms in different sizes and bed capacity, common/living room, kitchen, male and female bathrooms. My room was very basic with a double bed, cupboard, 2 headlamps and an electric heater, a must in winter months. The common room had a TV, phone and computer with free internet. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, fridge and lots of cleaning materials. The bathroom had no soap or shampoo, so it’s advisable to bring your own. In general, the apartment was a bit dusty and in need of attention, but linens was clean and there was hot water 24 hours. The traffic noise can be disturbing at nights and building trembles when a big bus or tram passed nearby but I assumed as I had a massage bed.
Overall, the price can be a bit high for what you get, but if you are not a hygiene freak, HCS is one of the best hostels in the district. I particularly recommend the newer section for couples and mature travellers. After the second night my friends and I were the only residents in this section and it was like our private apartment.
Thanks to Jelena, Danilo and Vlada for their friendship and hospitality. One last word: If you are looking for a good place to eat, get advice from Vlada.

Room Tip: The newer section is more suitable for longer stays and mature travellers. It has several private ro...

“One of the best”

I have been hosteling since 2000 and this was among the best experiences, for the following reasons:
1. Location across the street from the train and bus terminal, easy to find, no stress when I left.
2. MOST HELPFUL STAFF EVER. Every person I met who works there was incredibly kind, outgoing, and helpful to me. I cannot say enough about them.
3. Safe and clean.
4. There are 2 locations, and I stayed in each. The main building, and one around the corner. Both are fine, but the one around the corner has a more "homey" feel to it, and it has more space for socializing with other guests.
5. Free internet, WIFI, linens and towels.

Yes it was somewhat noisy outside, but... this is a capital city, so I don't know what people expect when they go to such places. The beds were so comfortable.

I stayed in a single room the entire time.

Oh! And a few doors down from the main hostel building is a little bakery (on a corner, I forget the name) but it had THE BEST BUREK AND YOGURT for breakfast. It is a hugely popular pastry in Serbia, and sold everywhere, but this place has the best.

Room Tip: I preferred the location around the corner

“Poor, there are better options around even at this price”

When we arrived the unsmiling guy at the reception took over 10 minutes to check us in, this wasn't because he had a lot of work to do, it was because he couldn't pause his online Texas Holdem game even for a few seconds. He'd write down a couple of numbers from our passport, think long and hard over whether he should check, raise or fold, write down another couple of numbers etc. The rooms could be cleaner and have a serious mosquito problem which they don't seem to do anything about. We counted 7 alone on the high ceiling in daylight hours so goodness knows how many were hiding around. Bring repellant and lots of it, if you plan to stay!

It's difficult sleeping with those pests buzzing round you all night but sleep isn't really much of an option here anyway. It's beside a busy main road with lots of traffic noise. Worse, the hostel does nothing to control the noise levels, people were still playing music in the common area up until 2am.

Security is also an issue here. Rooms can't be locked, so anyone can wander in and out of your room and as there are no lockers available there's nowhere secure to leave your stuff. Facilities are also quite basic. Two internet terminals, slow and always busy. One room (I wouldn't really call it a kitchen as there's no space to sit down there) with some kind of camping cooker and a fridge. Being cheap is about all this place has going for it, but even there it's not any cheaper than other hostels in Belgrade.

“Decent hostel opposite train station”

Room was clean and spacious and air con included which was a good deal in comparison with other hostels.

free internet and nice lounge/kitchen area made this a very pleasant hostel.

Only downside was the bathrooms which were small and badly kept - No shower curtain = floods !

That said , I really enjoyed staying here, shame Belgrade wasnt the most interesting place :(

It was the best hostel I have ever been!! The location is great and the stuff is "super" as Jelena from the reception says always smiling! I have to say also that Danilo (the owner) is really kind and nice person. As I said before Jelena is super and really makes your day only with her smile. There were also some crazy parties there that we really enjoyed. I would definetely go there again!!
