“Sweet Mother of Jehoshaphat!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

I went for a short break to visit a friend in Belgrade who booked a group of us in here. I considered no longer being friends with this person shortly afterwards for this very same reason! We booked for 4 nights and left after one of the most bizarre nights I have ever had in my life.
The shower literally blows flames at you when you turn the heat up. No joke, a flame comes out at you. Also it smells like gas so I suspect this is something to do with it.
We got the 'private room' which was a broom cupboard (not joking, a broom cupboard) with 2 beds nailed to the wall, one above each other and on the bottom bunk there is an electrical box stuck to the wall so you cannot even use the entire bed. To cap it all off, one of the workers sat all night on the phone (which was outside the door to our broom cupboard) having a long and drawn out arguement with someone who then turned up about an hour later and they had an actual physical fight outside the door, banging into it etc!

However, we did fare better than our friends in the shared room by the front door... we met them in the morning and they were not in good form at all... the fight has srpead into thier room and since each bed is seperated with ratty cloth there is no noise protection or physical protection from fighting idiots falling all over the place.

We checked out in the morning, the owner didn't even fight about it. Gave us our money back and we went on our way. We stayed in a really nice hotel after that, also booked by my friend from Belgrade but I cannot remember the name of it!

The name of this one will live forever in my memories though, kind of glad I spent a night here as it is the single worst place I have ever slept (and I am including airport floors in that) so things can only get better....

There was not even room to put your bags or anything else in the room! However, we fared better than our friends in the hostel. We met

“The Tash Inn hostel in Belgrade”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Hi I stayed at the Tash Inn in Belgrade recently and found the hostel wonderful and friendly. The staff were so helpful with all my requirements, they had kept my family in Ireland informed on my arrivals etc. I cannot say enough about how helpful they were during my stay. The hostel in very central and has so much to offer a visitor who might be staying for the first time in Belgrade. It is so close to all the interesting places and I would recommend it to all... I'll be back again

Room Tip: all rooms are good

“Superb location and great value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

This is a great place if you
- want to see Belgrade in a few days- limited time so you need a central location (doesn't get more central than this!);
- do not want /afford to spend a lot of money on accommodation -you're with friends and focus on having a good time/ see main attractions;
- don't need 4+ stars conditions.

In short- great value for money if you're travelling in a group; they mainly have rooms with multiple beds (we were 3 guys and stayed in a 3 beds room w. bathroom and shower, all for ~50 EUR /person/ 3 nights)- and also a great apartment -with a few bedrooms and a large living room, a nice kitchen and a great terrace.

The staff were also very helpful -ready to provide info/ maps/ whatever needed.

Not very good I guess for family/ romantic travel (I would personally choose something with more stars in the first case and in a quieter location in the later).

Oh- and a nice bonus are the PC's w. internet connection in all rooms, plus wireless available!

Room Tip: the best room is no. 1- downstairs, 3 beds + bathroom, fridge, closet, PC, close to the small outsid...

“Worst hostel ever, smell of gas and tape-isolated wires”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2011

Booked this hostel because it was one of the few that had private bathrooms with showers. Arrived at a building's backdoor that looked like the entrance to a shady nightclub. The location is actually OK, just a 10 minute walk from the central pedestrian area, and once the reconstruction of the adjacent park is completed, it may be quite nice.

The hostel's few rooms are scattered throughout the annex of a building. They are small, but OK; the bathrooms are a joke, though: You can shower while sitting on the toilet and brushing your teeth over the washing basin all at the same time, they are so tiny. In fact, you cannot shower without showering toilet and basin as well - no curtains, no separations. One bathroom had gas heating and started to smell of gas once you closed the window (which was normal according to the reception guy - "just leave the window open"). The other had electrical heating with wires hanging from the wall isolated with tape.

They do provide "blankets" and "sheets", but you better bring a sleeping bag. The reception guys appeared friendly, but not very trustworthy. They ask you to pay upon arrival, and they know why.

I eventually moved to a nearby hotel - couldn't take a shower in that bathroom without fear of being electrocuted - but my friends stayed and did actually survive. I have been to cheaper hostels in Germany, Sweden and Norway, and every single one of them was better than Tash-inn.

“Nice, Cheap, Fun”

Stayed at the Tash Inn a small hostel in Tasmajdan Park. Great location but a small place.
Belgrade is a lovely town with nice places to eat and interesting things to see.
See: Kalemegdan Park, Nikola Tesla Museum, Sveti Sava Church, Ada Ciganlija (nice, but not great)
Eat: Sprska Kafana (great prices, helpful staff - don't speak English but will pick good food for you, menu all in cyrillic, have faith and go there, you'll be pleased)
Sesir Moj (great atmosphere in Skadarska, a bit overpriced, live traditional music is nice too, bread is fantastic!)
