“Good accommodation at a very good price”

This hotel was recommended to me by a work colleague who had visited Belgrade before. this was my first trip to the city.

I travel a lot on business and I'm used to staying in 4* hotels run by the usual chains. I hesitated at booking a hotel that was charging the equivalent of £30 GBP per night (with breakfast) but thought I would trust my colleague and book anyway. I am very glad that I did.

I don't intend this to be a review of Belgrade as a whole, which is an interesting city with a striking history, but I will offer a bit of advice on getting into the city centre from the airport. You will be advised to book a taxi while you are still airside to avoid being ripped off. You can do that if you wish, and spend about 1,500 Dinar (15 euros), or you can catch the airport bus (No.72) which is parked immediately outside the door, departs every 20 minutes, travels to the central railway station and costs a princely 250 Dinar.

Hotel Rex is a 10 minute walk from the railway station. Don't be put off by the grey post-war architecture of New Belgrade, the older city has certainly got that lived-in look but it has much of interest to offer. The nightlife is excellent (I'm told), the restaurants are plentiful, cheap and of qood quality (cuisine tends to be unpretentious but uses plenty of fresh produce).

Hotel Rex looks like a throw-back to the 1980s in decor but the staff are extremely effcient and helpful, and the place is very clean. I booked a 'single room for single occupancy' and was pleasantly surprised to get a very spacious room with a king-size bed, flat screen TV, good Wi-Fi connection (complimentary) and a perfectly adequate shower room. The room was spotlessly clean, the mini-bar well-stocked and very cheap (less than £2 for a beer), the bed comfortable and the water hot. Elsewhere in Europe I have paid five times the price for a grubby room of inferior space and quality at a more pretentious establishment.

The hotel restaurant is open from 0600-2300 and serves a good range of food from an extensive menu. The breakfast is fine and there's a fair choice of foods. The salads are particularly good. While none of the cooking would win any Michelin stars, it is freshly cooked, using fresh ingredients, and was tasty and filling. Service was excellent and I was astonished by the polyglot waiters who seemed able to change from Serbian to English to Italian to German without breaking step. I felt rather ashamed of my poor language skills in comparison.

The only criticism I would make is that smoking is still allowed in the restaurant, but this is the case throughout Serbia so it's unfair to single the hotel out in this regard. Non-smoking bedroms are available (as mine was) and they are fine.

In conclusion: clean, comfortable, spacious accommodation with good facilities at an extremely reasonable price. i would use the hotel again.

Room Tip: Book in advance (I used Octopus Travel online and paid in advance in the UK) and make your request f...

“Larger than it looks; pleasant if smoky ;)”

Stayed here during a work trip to Serbia, and overall pleased with the hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean, and staff generally helpful, though fatalistic (could be a national characteristic). A little out of the centre, and a walk to the castle takes around 20-30 mins (much of it uphill).

Pricing was reasonable, and I would stay here again. Beware the rush hour though if you require car transportation - the hotel stands on a busy one-way street, which is gridlocked from 8-10am. ALSO - if you're from a country (like the UK) with draconian anti-smoking legislation, you'll find all the indoor puffing here (and throughout Serbia) a little unpleasant (or a welcome relief, depending on your predilection).

“Good hotel”

The hotel is not really in the centre and I have found it with some difficulties the evening I arrived in Belgrade.
Anyway, it is near the railways station and this has been a good advantage when I took the train early in the morning to visit Novi Sad and Subotica.
The breakfast I had in the morning was really good and the room was quite cosy even though not too big.
In the period I stayed at the hotel there were not a lot of other travellers except on my last day because there was a marathon or something similar.
The price I paid for the three night I stayed there (in a single) was really cheap considering the service and the quality of the stay.

“Great deal, good location”

I was lucky enough to recentlly visit Belgrade and stayed at the Hotel Rex. The hotel is well situated and it's a pleasant 20 minute stroll to the city centre with a variety of decent small bars and cafes along the way.

The hotel receptionist was very good and took care of details such as arranging a taxi the following morning for the airport run and arranging early morning call etc. The hotel really does look like an office block from the outside but inside has all the practical necessities required. The room was perfectly adequate for my requirements, the bed was comfortable, the tv worked as did the aircon and the room was well cleaned.

The breakfast here is eminently adequate, coffee, tea, juices, cereal, bread rolls, bread for toast, cheeses, meats and a selection from the hot plate. (You can tell that I was more than happy with the hospitality here)

So, all in all, a perfectly good choice of hotel in a safe area and for the price that they charge, you can't go wrong. I booked through Ocopus travel and paid around £37.00. Bargain.

“Decent hotel, walking distance from station and old ciity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

Very good location, 10 min walking from bus and railway station, 20-30 min from old city center and one bus station from Sava center (conference center). They sometimes have special offers so I paid 40E per night in single room.
Staff are really friendly but they do not know a lots about touris attractions and they do not have a city map, but for me these it did not matter. In room Wi-Fi is little bit slow.
Room was comfortable, clean with air condition and small Tv (approximately 40 programs).
In the courtyard of the hotel is terrace where you can drink a beer or coffee in the shade. Around the hotel is a lots of small fast-food restaurants and shops.

I recommend this hotel for tourist and business travel.

Room Tip: Ask for some discount if you stay longer.
