The hotel is removed from downtown Bucharest, not much to walk to from the Hotel, nor any great views. No Metro or anything near by, so have to take a taxi (or Bus) everywhere. The hotel appears to be frequented mainly by Business people working in the near by Office Centers.
Rooms are ok, bed is comfortable, not the biggest bathroom I’ve seen (nor most modern) but serviceable. Hair dryer, basic bath supplies (shampoo, body wash, etc.). Instant coffee and water bottle available in the room. Free WiFi. Safe in room, large enough for most laptops. Plenty of towels plus wash cloth. Found it odd though that I could not adjust the heating as it seemed to be on continuously and had to turn on the cooling (in January), plus open the window (which wasn’t very wide due to the design), to keep the room at a good sleeping temperature. Fairly quiet at night, with the exception of barking dogs. TV is somewhat of a challenge to figure out which buttons control what (to keep from accidentally accessing the pay channels). At the end of the day, not much in English to watch. All in all, room was comfortable with the exception of the heating situation.
Buffet breakfast was ok, coffee not the best I’ve had. Eggs were rather dry and no Egg Bar for made to order eggs. Juices, cold cuts, bacon, sausage and fruits available. Not a large selection of breads.
Desk staff is very friendly and helpful, which is somewhat of a disparity with the wait staff as the wait staff are not overly friendly, brusque is probably the best description (at off site Restaurants as well, might be a waiter thing). Pretty much had to flag the waiters down for coffee re-fills as my empty cup must have been invisible.
The evening lobby decoration invariably included a couple of young ladies in very very high heels, draw your own conclusions.
Ate at the adjoining Casa Doina one night. Ordered the Dorado (fish), which was reasonably good, but the accompanying stir fry (vegetables) was mainly stir fry ‘paprika’, i.e. bell peppers. The restaurant had little in the way of atmosphere, basically a very large room, with few guests.
Airport to hotel taxi fare seems to vary between 40 to 80 lei and taxi fare to any other point depends on how honest the taxi driver is. There is a fairly decent mall (Baneasa Shopping City) about 4-5 kilometers away, one way was 10 lei, return was 25 lei (fares change by the type of car as well as the time of day/night). Didn’t have a good experience at the Sushi Koy sushi bar at the mall. Out of Edamame and when the Sushi came, no Ginger. Sushi without Ginger is not Sushi.
On arrival at the airport, wait to change money until exiting the arrivals hall. Turn right towards the car rental signs, but pass the car rental area and Exchange booths and go to the Bank that’s just a little further along. Much better exchange rates. When leaving Bucharest, all Duty Free seem to only accept Euro.
