“a second family in bucharest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

A little bit hard to find but CERTAINLY worth it. The rooms were clean, staff like family who were available for questions 24 hours a day and even the cleaning lady was delightful and considerate. if i had to pick a standout - they all were great - but Carmen knew all the great spots, she was ready with a smile everytime we arrived back EXCEPTIONALLY late/early and boy could she dance!

We only stayed one night. But it was great. The staff was very accomodating and set up a tour for us to Transylvania. The beds were comfortable and clean. Awesome night of sleep. No complaints, only good stuff.

“Nice hostel - Incredible staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

It was a nice place to stay in a city we mostly disliked. The staff was incredible, very helfpul, speaking good english. The private room was ok but very near a shared living room where people stayed up at night, making sleep a little bit difficult. Cleanliness was as good as can be expected in this type of establishment. Very well situated, near the train station as well as the old center. Reliable pick-up and drop-off service to the airport.

“Did not sleep at all!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

Bucharest in August is very hot, but our travel guide led us to believe this hostel had air-conditioning or fans. Our room had neither, and on top of that, it was clearly a room that had been intended to be a bathroom (tiled floor to ceiling, pipes on wall meant for sink etc). It was completely unbearable because of the heat. But even if the room had been cooler, we would have been kept awake by the noise from the courtyard below.

The staff were quite friendly, but said there was no way they could get a fan for the room. We took our money back for the second night we'd booked and went somewhere else.

“A pleasant place to stay in a not so pleasant city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

This is a good hostel situated close to the Gara du Nord. It is approx a 20 minute walk to the old town. The hostel lies behind an inconspicuous doorway and we walked straight past it the first time! There is a nice courtyard to chill out in as well as a TV lounge inside and a quiet lounge on the second floor. There are clean, well kept bathrooms on each of the three floors. The free internet here is pretty good. Its also worth mentioning that free towels are supplied to guests which was very useful.
The staff here are really nice and very helpful. The cleaning lady was really sweet and funny and she set up a little fan for us in our room as it was so incredibly hot. All the staff made us feel really at home here.
We had a private room which was small but not cramped. The bed was very cosy. Because of the time of year, it was extraordinarily hot and even with the desk fan on and the window open the room was almost too hot to sleep in. This was the only downside though.
Personally I wasn't keen on Bucharest but I found the Butterfly Villa to be a little oasis and would recommend it to anyone looking for good value accommodation in the area.
