“Not the friendliest of places”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed there for three nights and have to say I dreaded running into the staff. They were not helpful when asked about restaurants or sites in the city, they acted as if we were bothering them and we weren't really worth their time. Another thing is they say there is no curfew, so you can come and go as late or early as you like, but that is not necessarily true. I arrived late at night and the receptionist did not want to give me a bed, or let me sit in the common room, I had to threaten I would call her supervisor if I did not get a bed for the night, considering I had already paid online. Then again they wouldn't come and unlock the door the second night after midnight, I had to stand outside banging on the door for 30 minutes before anyone would open it, that's after I had stood waiting after ringing the doorbell for 20 minutes. If you're looking for a place just to sleep and shower than this place is fine, but if you're looking for a friendly environment to hangout and meet people this is not the place to do it. It was a very uncomfortable stay and I couldn't wait to get out of there. The staff really do make a place.

“very good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I stayed there for two nights and it was very good.
The plumping had a bit of an issue and it was smelling but who cares.
The price is very good, is in a good quiet location (also very close to it there is a 24/7 kebab store ~~yummie)
The stuff were extremely friendly and helpful with all the issues we had.
Definitely a great choice for some nights in Bucharest.

“Old home for a cozy hostel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

This hostel is built in an old building in Bucharest. Value for money is average. The kitchen is not super though the price is not high either. I would go here again.

“We nearly left after the first night.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

Yes, the staff were friendly and helpful, the location was fine, WiFi worked well and the breakfast was basic but adequate. Unfortunately, we had a similar experience to one of the previous reviewers. We arrived on the evening of a scorching hot day, after a 22 hour train ride from Istanbul, in which we had shared a couchette compartment with a Romanian woman who had absolutely refused to open the window even an inch. (We were able to move elsewhere during the day, but could not sleep the whole night.) Having another sleepless night suffocating in this terrible two-person dorm was the last straw. A Canadian couple we met on the train followed us to the hostel and were given an airy six-bed dorm all to themselves, but we had booked a private room. (The hostel was booked out the next two nights, so we couldn't do the same.) We asked for a fan but the receptionist was unable to locate one.

We were prepared to move out the next morning, but a fan was found by that time and there was a change in the weather anyway. We decided to try another night and move for the third night if necessary. The fan helped, the cool weather helped and the room became acceptable - just!

I don't like to be negative about a place where the staff, who speak good English, do try to look after their guests, but the fact that there have been complaints about this problem before should mean they ensure a fan is provided for this room.

By the way, we loved Bucharest.

Room Tip: Don't accept 2-bed dorm next to the bathroom!

“a second family in bucharest”

A little bit hard to find but CERTAINLY worth it. The rooms were clean, staff like family who were available for questions 24 hours a day and even the cleaning lady was delightful and considerate. if i had to pick a standout - they all were great - but Carmen knew all the great spots, she was ready with a smile everytime we arrived back EXCEPTIONALLY late/early and boy could she dance!
