“Dodgy dealers - AVOID!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

You know when you have that niggling feeling you are being ripped off? We arrived late one miserable and wet night and phoned ahead to see availablitily. We were quoted 250 lei (about 50 pounds) for a double room. Upon arrival my fiance went to see the room while I waited - said it was small, dark but would have to do. It was late. The price list was in view and said doubles were 200 lei, apartments 250 lei. Dodgy? Yes. I pushed and pushed and were reluctantly given different keys...to a BIG apartment (living room + bedroom) Clearly they wanted a little more in low season. Breakfast was promised by the lonely planet to be impressive. It wasnt. When my fiance asked if he could have a glass of juice which was on the breakfast bar, the dodgy owner said it was an extra 5 lei (1 pound) per glass! When he asked for some yoghurt, he huffed and mumbled something under his breath. Really unprofessional.
Finally the room, at times, had a slight smell of sewerage. Not to mention the constant smell of cigarettes at reception.
Avoid at all costs but if you must, criticise the price list and question everything.

“perfect Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2009

small Hotel

personal isn´t very accommodating

not the best food, breakfast in the price

terribly small rooms for twoo, no space even for luggage, very small windows and not into the streets just to the other building wall
bathroom for double room on the floor, but nice one

Beuatiful apartman, very romantic with beuatiful furniture and nice view to the street, but very expensive

Hotel is stylized to the old style - nice
Has perfect location, near to punto Zero, to the centrum, to the nice park Cizmigiu /sorry for spelling/ and to the most important turistical places in Buchurast

“Functional no-frills rooms, great location, very helpful staff, cheapish”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

The hotel location is central and great: by a lush park with wonderful restaurant overlooking a small lake. On the surface of it, the hotel looks quite grand in the reception area. The rooms are reasonably priced and great for low-budget traveller and being a single woman there, I felt very comfortable. The room I had was on the 5th floor and was incredibly hot even with the window open (I went in June) so a fan would have been good. The mattress was soft so those with a bad back may be disappointed! I shared a bathroom for 128 Ley which is fairly reasonable for the area. The staff however were incredibly helpful. I left at 6.00 in the morning and they packed me a breakfast!! The receptionist was also happy to practice my Romanian with me.

“Excellent value - great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2009

We booked this hotel simply because it was in budget - a rarity in Bucharest! It was a very pleasant surprise and a great place to stay.
When we arrived we were greeted by a very helpful and friendly lady who checked us in and drew us a map to the nearest bank (just around the corner) and offered to help us arrange a taxi transfer back to the airport etc.
The room turned out to be a suite! We’re not talking 5* but very clean, spacious and much more than we expected. It was very warm even in March so I’d be wary in the summer but the window’s and balcony doors opened and I think there was an aircon unit.
Breakfast was not overly exciting but plentiful and did the trick after a few of glasses of Vampire wine – There are set menus but with a little coaxing and a promise to pay upfront we were able to swap tea for coffee and get an orange juice each! The guy serving breakfast was very lovely but obviously doesn’t welcome guests interfering in his meticulously organised system! I agree with other posts on the “Croissant” but then, this is Bucharest not Paris…
Most importantly is the location – perfect for a few days sight seeing in the city, we walked everywhere and found coming back late to be no trouble at all, although the collection of porcelain dolls and clowns (be warned – they made me jump coming down the stairs the first morning!) look even more scary in the dark!!
My one note of caution would be that on the second night the very friendly lady on Reception had been replaced by a young man who offered to help us book a taxi to the airport and when we asked the price he told us 120 euros which is completely crazy! It cost us 40 euros coming in from the airport and even with some confusion over where we were going and pre-booking on the way back it was only 70. I would simply say watch out for this particular guy rather than the Hotel Carpati itself.

“Great price & Location. Cleean & Friendly. Some bad Rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

This small, one might even say 'boutique' hotel scores vey high for price, location and charm. It's only let down is that some rooms are TINY. the problem is, this hotel is so popular because of its location, trhe good rooms go quickly and you may have to put up with what's left. On our first night we found placed in a tiny coffin shaped room with virtually no window. Terrible. We demanded a change - but there was no possibility. The next day however a change was possible - from the basement to the attic!. Much better, but without airco you would roast in the summer.
Friendly staff. super location. Try it!
