“Inexpensive - you get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

This hotel is a few minutes walk from the main Bucharest Train Station, but I suspect it is heavily booked with large groups of travelers and is on the journey from being a nice place to a less than average place. Their signage demands payment in advance if you come in without luggage (sounds like people skip out) and their in-room info includes per item costs for stolen and broken room fixtures (sounds like people trash the place).

The room was large with a king bed and pull out couch. It had outdated furniture and decor, bed comforter was stained, carpet was worn and less than clean and everything was generally wearing thin. The floor drain gurgled when you flush the toilet and there was plastic wrap under the grate to make sure nothing splashed into the room. There was also a party booked in the basement restaurant with lots of hollering and loud music until relatively late.

I know this all sounds like a lot of complaining, it is really just a buyer beware message. You get what you pay for. This is a very affordable stay, close to the station with friendly front desk staff. You choose!

The Elizeu was a prenight hotel booked by a local tour company we were using for a walking holiday in northern Romania. When we took a taxi from the airport to the Elizeu he warned us not to go out after dark. This hotel is not in the best part of Bucharest so we heeded his warning. It is very close to the train station so the plus to this hotel is no taxi fares to catch a train. I would only recommend this hotel for a 1 night stay if you have an early train out of Bucharest. There are no site seeing attractions in the neighborhood, only a lot of free roaming dogs. The rooms are basic, no frills, hard beds and worse pillows. The noise we experienced was not within the hotel, but from outside. We slept with the window open and the many feral dogs that roam the area bark at the least provocation. Closing the window didn't help much. Take earplugs. The rooms are clean. We ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was reasonably priced, plentiful and good. Breakfast was typical European, rolls, cheese and meats, but they did have fried eggs. The desk staff is helpful and English is understood. There is a computer in the lobby where you can check emails at no charge. The nearest ATM is in a shopping center about 3/4 mile away. The hotel staff gave us good directions on how to get there.

“You could have a better night's sleep on the train station platform opposite the hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

We had arrived at the Gara de Nord train station in the pouring rain having returned our hire car at Baneasa Airport (Bus 780 or 205 direct to the station) and were increasingly becoming drenched looking for the Elizeu. Then, like a glowing beacon to get us into the dry, it appeared and our prayers were answered! From the outside this hotel looks fairly trendy, a nice lobby area etc. The restaurant also serves up palatable food at a very reasonable price.

The rooms at first sight were not bad either, but at the end of the day, a hotel is a place to rest your head for the night.

The Elizeu ultimately failed on this point.

The bedrooms are clearly smoking rooms; which I gather having stayed across Romania that they don't differentiate between smoking and non-smoking rooms. This wasn't too much of an issue. However, three points lead me to rating this hotel as 1 out of 5:

1. Bedding: hard mattresses, tiny pillows and inadequate covers made for an uncomfortable night's sleep, with little we could do.

2. Noise: I had expected noise from the train station, but all of the noise came from inside the hotel. The walls must only be made out of cardboard - you could hear everything, and a huge group of people laughing and joking in the room down the corridor, then slowing making their way out of the corridor at 1am is not what I wanted!

3. Breakfast: Quite simply the worst hotel breakfast I have ever experienced (and I consider myself a connoisseur of hotel breakfasts). There were about 2 measly bits of greasy sausage in a huge tray, cold excuses for fried eggs, and what can only be described as left over salads and dishes thrown together from the previous night's restaurant servings. The only thing we could stomach was toast. The woman working in the restaurant during breakfast was rude, obnoxious, and seemed annoyed when asked any questions.

The service on the front desk however was good, they looked after our bags whilst we ventured into Bucharest, and were happy for us to use the facilities before we departed for the airport. However, I would NEVER stay at this hotel again, nor recommend it, you could have a better night's sleep on the platform at the train station opposite

Come here if you are on a budget and need to be close to Gare Nord. The room was clean and there is a restaurant where the food is acceptable.staff were friendly. We found the place a bit too basic and the area was not very pleasant.
