“Excellent Value For Money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2008

Even if the exterior is not enchanting, this hotel is excellent!
The room is spacious, clean and trendy. Bathrobe and sleepers are among the amenities you can find in this room, as well as a desk, a large bath, an lcd tv, mini frdge and so on.
Breakfast, included in the rate, is varied, tasty and elegant.
The restaurant, lobby and reception are very smart, too.
Service is good and personnel is kind and helpful.
The location is good: Lipscani is about 15 minutes' walk.
Enjoy Bucharest stayng here!!!!!!

“Decent rooms - watch out for extra expenses”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2008

This hotel does have comfortable rooms, aimed more at business travelers than families and couples. As others have noted, ignore the unattractive outside facade and street - the rooms are nicely decorated (besides the old carpets) and have all the usual amenities (TV with cable, minibar, internet access).

In spite of the decent rooms, and sometimes very affordable price of the rooms, I'd stay away from this hotel due to 4 major issues:

1) mediocre food

2) sketchy relationships with horrible taxis (almost every taxi they called for me ripped me off) - it was incredible

3) not in a central location - if you want to be downtown, this is not the hotel for you. Granted, taxis in Bucharest are cheap (make sure you get a "normal" rate taxi - 1.60 - 1.70 lei / KM) and you can get to most downtown locations for under 15 lei.

4) VERY expensive amenities with sometimes unclear prices -i.e., internet access is an extra fee - ranging from 5 Euros (NOT lei) for 1 hr - 15 Euros for 24 hrs; phone calls are super expensive from the hotel (to be expected, but watch out); and watch out for their ironing / dry cleaning fee. I requested an iron be brought to my room (listed as an available, no-cost, service in their booklet) - instead they sent someone to get my shirts and press them in the hotel (I stupidly didn't get that this was a different service). When I checked out, they wanted to charge me 42 LEI for pressing 3 shirts! And when I refused to pay this, the reception guy treated me very rudely accusing me of trying to rip him off!

All in all, I'd say go spend a few extra dollars or Euros in a more centrally located, more modern hotel with straight forward prices and policies. If I had to describe this hotel in one word I'd say "SHADY!"

“not so incredible experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2007

Stayed at "Monte Nelly" in July.
The room was indeed spotless, the bathroom big and clean, but I had a problem with the staff. Example: inefficient room-service, rude bellboy. poorely trained receptionist. Called the room-service to ask for let's say strawberries and what you actually get is peanuts! Then the bell boy looks like he's begging for money, and the receptionist look like a waitress. Never saw a manager around. They have no clue about grooming standards!
Overall, good amenities, but the staff and service were awful!!

“Don't let the front of the hotel put you off!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2007

We stayed at the Monte Nelly in Bucharest last week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was large and, again, spotlessly clean. The shower worked perfectly and even the free shower gels and soaps that they put in there were good quality.

The breakfast was fantastic. There was a wide selection of food served in a very comfortable dining room.

The friendly staff were helpful and professional and always had a smile for us, something which anyone who has been to Romania will know, isn't all that common!

Overall, I was very impressed with the Monte Nelly. I've stayed in quite a few four star hotels only to find them 'a little rough around the edges'. This hotel truly deserves every one of its stars.

“Homely feel !”

The Monte Nelly Hotel is a very welcoming and friendly hotel from the moment you arrive. The receptionists and bell boys were always friendly and helpful wherever they could be eg holding open doors, helping with bags etc
The food selection for breakfast was fantastic and very varied.
Rooms are very clean and have lots of extra details and helpful information for getting around buchrest.Rooms are large and have plenty of tv channels to offer in several languages.Airconditioning was very welcome as Bucharest gets quite hot in august.
The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the nearest metro and very central although the surrounding streets were subject to lots of road works and not in the best area. The back streets to the hotel were a much better route and a chance to see some of the building hidden by the uglier main street ones.
The hotel also has a list of reputable taxi firms which are definately worth getting hold of before you get to bucharest as you will be rippd off at the station or the airport if you ar not very careful!
The hotel was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Bucharest!
