“Great staff and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

Stayed 3 nights at Ambassador and room was basic but comfortable. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly/helpful but not in your face. Managed to leave a bag which we thought was in taxi we took to rail station (incidentally taxi was ordered by hotel and driver was honest charged really cheap rate) contacted the hotel and they got in touch with taxi firm for us, bag not in taxi. Received call from hotel half hour later to say they had found in lobby, they had traced my mobile number to contact and let us know and put bag away till we were able to return to collect. This hotel is not far from the Intercontinental so can't understand why some reviews say about area being seedy/out of the way. Every time read trip advisor reviews they seem to be written by people expecting to stay at the hilton at budget prices. When actually staying at the hotels described as 'worst hotel I've ever stayed in' always find staff fine, location good and rooms/food what you would expect for the price. Enjoyed our stay at the Ambassador and would recommend it to others.

“Magheru Blvd from the 3rd floor of Ambasador hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2010

The Ambasador hotel's location makes it popular. It was clean and roomy and because it offered a good sight of Magheru Blvd, it was a little bit noisy. The service was good, with a nice staff.

“Don't expect much”

I was supposed to stay at the Capitol Hotel - but that was a fisaco. So my tour operator arranged for this place. Very strange hotel. Soviet style, no frills with weird decoration. Positve point is that it is very near a metro station, about a 3-4 minute walk and it is coneected to a casino. My room was large but my window looked out to an alley. I had to laugh wen I saw the bathroom. The toilet was tucked into a corner at the end of the tub. I had to do some acrobatics to sit on it. If I were overwieght or had a handicap it would have been impossible to use it.

The cafeteria was bizarre and can only be described as a typical soviet style. Hotel staff suggested outrageoulsy expensive taxi drivers, without letting me know there was a metro station almost right outside the door.

“Pay extra to stay somewhere better !!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2007

The bad bits - the hotel reception is a dark and sombre place, my room on the 3rd floor, was horrible, the decor is white painted rough walls and red floral type carpets (very old) the bed was really, really hard, (left me with back problems for 2-3 days after leaving - I'm used to sleeping on hard beds) the TV speaker was obviously broken as it sounded fuzzy and distorted, the floor around the door was unhoovered, the shower took ages to warm up (there is no regulator - only a hot and a cold tap !!) and there wasn't a proper hook for the shower head to hang, so I had to bend down to wash my hair, it was either that or hold the shower head, the curtains on the shower were brown at the bottom, just one medium sized bath towel and one small face towel......there was a verandah but only a small space to stand and admire the grey walls as the air conditioning unit took up most of the space. The mini bar is EXPENSIVE too, 6 Lei for a bar of chocolate !! (buy from the kiosk just 200 yards right out of the hotel door) and keep your own food / drink in the mini bar !! Also make sure you get to breakfast early as it gets busy !!! plus they seem to run out of food quickly and are not quick in bringing replacements for things like yoghurt, sausages and butter.....There is also NO internet access whatsoever. Only an internet cafe again behind some shops and down a dark alley (near the above kiosk) - you have to look hard for the signs !!! it is cheap to use 1.5 Lei for 30 minutes, but it is a dark and scary place.

The good bits - the staff were really friendly and helpful, the hotel is centrally based - if you really have to stay here choose a room at the back away from the noisy street.

All in all this place could do with a major refurbishment, it seems they are waiting until they absolutely HAVE to refurbish it,....but I wouldn't stay there again......

We did not stay there but enjoyed excellent meals at very reasonable prices in their 2nd level restaurant.
And a very very friendly competent service.

Passing by we saw some youth groups moving in and a recption team obviously not for stress loaden situations.
