“As a business user it ticks all the boxes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I use the InterContinental in Bucharest once a month and they are very good a catering to my needs. The location is very very close to the metro which makes travelling around easier.

This week it snowed heavily and closed the airport and many roads all on the morning I was due to fly back. The hotel kept me updated on the situation all the time and the hotels taxi service did an excellent job in getting me to the airport when it openned and I was able to fly home with only a 4 hour delay. Club room and lounge is excellent and the service rI eceived from reception and everyone in the club lounge is great. I am returning again in February.

Good location, decent room service, nice stuff, but the hotel is in a dire need of refurbishing!

“Excellent service and management again!”

Some of my relatives stayed at the hotel recently. I visited them often. Good food, good service, good rooms, attentive staff and management. Breakfast is great and varied, you can smoke in the bar.

Impressed at how a manager of such a large hotel can be everywhere and attending to everyone.

A really nice, comfortable, warm and real 5 star hotel in a central location in town and central, just ideal for the national theatre and the shows.

The views from high up of Bucharest are pleasant especially of Unirrea at night.

Suprisingly, the price for this level of quality and service was less than I expected.

However, if you fancy a hamburger in the bar snack range, don't! The Chef still has not figured out how to do a good ground hamburger. You will be asked for rare, medium or well done - forget it - it comes as it comes. Stick to the fish and chips for a snack.

Better still, go to one of the main restaurants and the food is aspiring to international standards. Beef and Lamb was very good last time.

Room Tip: Try to get city view high up.

“It gets better every time I go”

I stayed at the IC Bucharest for five nights over Christmas. The staff assigned me the same (large) room I was in before which was a really nice touch as I told them that I liked that particular room. The furnishings have not changed although I did notice a few different improved amenities.

What really stood out is the new Club Lounge on the 21st floor. It occupies pretty much a third of the 21st floor and is very modern with warm earth tones and good lighting which makes it a perfect place to relax and just unwind.

The people there in the lounge including a very nice lady by the name of Anemone and Marius were very attentive, coming by to offer coffee or refreshments. Very nice and appropriate breakfast served in the morning until 11am and canapes and snacks throughout the day. In the evening there are warm snacks and canapes which could nearly spoil your appetite for dinner if you eat too much of the good stuff! The only one thing I was missing was direct access myself to the coffee machine like in many other lounges. But the staff was always at hand so it wasn’t a problem.

One floor up you'll find the swimming pool, gym and saunas (dry and wet). As before and perhaps even more so now they are kept in meticulous condition. One thing I would recommend to the hotel is to offer a different variety of "finger foods" and perhaps a few more healthy options on the snack menu. It does take a long time, however, to have your order served so make sure you are not in a rush. When entering the pool area don't forget to put the blue slip-ons over your shoes to not drag the street dirt into the area. :-)

Another nice surprise was the return of an old staff member, the Chief Concierge Catalin Malureanu. He's full of energy and extremely helpful and can get you enthusiastic about seeing things that you may otherwise have missed on your trip to Bucharest or surrounding areas. I'd really recommend having a little talk with him for some real insider information on local culture and places to go.

It seems that the InterContinental in Bucharest is not resting on its laurels as the original “Grand Hotel” of the city but doing it share to keep up with the others. A visit is definitely recommended.

Room Tip: I always try to get the rooms with the view to the front (University). It is a bit louder because of...

“Highend at perfect location”

This is a typical Intercontinental hotel, well located in the city centre. It is a small oasis of tranquility in the middle of the busy and noisy Bucharest. I had a great checkin experience, done by very professional staff. The bedroom was large, cosy and very clean though some redecoration would be appreciated. Wonderful sleep quality anyway. I also had a bite at the bar. Staff was helpful and food ok considering that it was already close to midnight. Overall a great experience, definitely my place to stay in Bucharest for its value.
