“Everything is possible at this hotel - everything good that is!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My first visit to Bucharest and two nights at the HJ. This is a glossy international hotel where everything works and everything you need is close to hand. I'd forgotten my plug adaptor; 'no problem,' says the receptionist handing me one from under the counter. Free wifi and a gym make this a good base for a business trip. But when so many of these glass tower hotels are clean but cold, this one is staffed by happy helpful people. You get the sense that they are proud of the place and want you to enjoy your stay.

Nothing to do with the hotel I know, but even the pimp outside who stopped me on both nights to offer 'nice clean girls' was friendly and non-threatening. Once he'd worked out I was not going to say yes, we chatted about the city instead.

“Great location, good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

I came over to Bucharest for three days for a meeting, most of the time was spent at the hotel so I got to actually experience.

The hotel is firstly very well situated in a central hub so it is easy to get there or from there to anywhere in town. If it isn't too cold you can also walk to the older part of town.

The facilities are good, rooms are spacious and well furnished. The breakfast was very good and since we stayed at the hotel I can say that lunch there was a very good buffet.

We got free WiFi in the rooms and around the hotel which was convenient and you can send documents you want printed to the reception and they will print it for you (useful for boarding passes).

All in all a good experience and a nice place to stay at

“Good standard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Good accommodation. Everything was clean and functioning. The room was relatively spacious with a small table and chairs, desk with flat screen TV on top..... Slept well in the good sized, comfortable bed......Bathroom was a good too, with a good shower over the bath and a large vanity area around the basin. Breakfast was good too. Reception was always rather busy though... maybe they need more staff at 'peak times'...?

Room Tip: ask for a high room if noise could be a problem for you....

“Not a five star hotel by any count”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

I am giving two stars, because the Internet worked consistently during my four day stay and the hotel was walking distance to the conference location, but there were too many things that didn't work. Of course some of these were resolved, but that's not the point. For a 5-star hotel, I expect things to work flawlessly.
1. I stayed on a non-smoking floor, but still the whole corridor smelled of smoke. Many of the rooms one had to walk through to get to breakfast smelt heavily of smoke and the area before entering the breakfast room was literally blue of smoke. Very off-putting.
2. The breakfast was generous, but the coffee was awful and the healthy dark brown bread ran out within an hour on nearly all days, leaving only white and sweet breads. The juices didn't seem to be fresh either.
3. The heating in the hotel is oppressive and windows cannot be opened. After three days of putting the thermostat to below 10 and the fan at maximum, I was able to get a reasonable temperature, but nearly all of my fellow conference participants complained bitterly about not being able to sleep at night because of the oppressive heat.
4. Water pressure was very low even at the sixth floor and the shower was a dribble most of the time. Toiletries were not systematically refilled.
5. The hotel proudly offered free printing, but when asked at reception I was bluntly told: printer is not working. When I looked a little annoyed, the girl added: and we don't know whether it will be repaired, because it is the weekend. No further apology or offer to help. I had to push to get her to inform me that I could print at the business centre.
6. The business centre is an unattended room in a hidden corner and could only be found by systematically going through all rooms on the first floor. It looked very shabby and although the print rate was reasonable at 1 lei/page, the usage rate of 1 lei/minute was not as it took the computer nearly two (paid) minutes to even start up. I then found out it wouldn't read memory sticks, so I had to pay 5 lei for nothing.

I only paid 100 euro a night, but I think the rack rate of this hotel is over 300 euro, which is an outrage for what they are offering. Next time I visit Bucharest, I will definitely choose another hotel.

“really downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

This Hotel is situated in the real center of the city, surrounded by clubs, restaurants, bars and casino's.
Rooms are tidy and spacious, furniture is Ok, space is enough but maybe little small for 2 persons.
Toilet clean and amenities up to standard.
what makes this Hotel special is the position, all the rest is average for 4 stars European Hotel.
if happens i go back to Romania i will probably go there again.

Room Tip: try to ask for a bigger room than usual, standard rooms are bit too small
