I stayed with a group of international government- sponsored colleagues observing the Parliamentary Elections. The hotel was clean and service good, with a 3 star breakfast.
Sadly, on the night before my departure, I needed to sleep to 03.15 hrs.
From 24.00 hrs on 29th November a noisy party raged - shouting and glasses clinking - on the 7th Floor landing by the lifts, which kept guests awake.
We did not like to risk intervention. Either the management was unaware of this disturbance or were unwilling to intervene. We had paid for our rooms just as much as the revellers and were entitled to some sleep, even just 3 hrs would have been nice.
Guests intending to visit should perhaps check whether the management are aware of any parties planned by other guests which involve use of the public open areas on the bedroom floors!!

The hotel is rather old. A/C doesn't work very well. My colleagues' rooms were too hot even with the windows open. I had a balcony in my room, but it was a shared balcony and there was no way to either crack a window of the balcony door without leaving it wide open. Not very good for personal security. Not enough drawer space in my version of the room. I noticed that my colleagues had complete wardrobes installed in their rooms. I only had built in closet space--little to no shelving. The floors were hardwood and covered by rugs that slid all over the place. The hotel did have a currency exchange on site, but be careful since the employees didn't provide good service and would try not to give you your full exchange rate. I also had problems paying for my room. My credit cards wouldn't run and I had to have my colleague pay for my room. The staff didn't really try everything they could to process my card--they'd run the card and say, "It didn't work. Do you have another card we can try? If not, just pay us in cash." A little shady if you ask me.

The Codru Hotel in Chisinau is a realy old and dark hotel. The interior is from the seventies and the overall condition of the hotel is bad. The location is in the center and opposite a park and in walking distance to the main shopping street and to several restaurants. The service is ok and the personal is speaking english. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. TV only local programms and free internet but very slow and broke up very often. Over all I would not recoment this hotel, there are more nicer ones for this price! Breakfast buffet was ok, but the coffee war realy bad!

I liked the Codru in Chisinau and in special the soviet architecture charm it still has at some point. The lobby and the hallways are basically left as they were, which i personally prefer instead of refurbishing it in a late 90s style which cant get worse – especially in east european countries. The rooms recieved this treatments so they're not what I liked at this hotel. If you need a snack. take the club sandwich at the lobby's bar – hands down the best I ever had in the world.
