We found that this city seemed to be split into an Old Zagreb and a more highrise, modern Zagreb.l
Hotel lisinski is in the more working class area, but retains some of what would have been say 1940's grandeur. Everywhere was clean, and the mother (?) was as helpful as could be expected and the daughter was as many younger people are, sort of " Well, yes, now that you ask me ---". The self-serve breakfast area was sufficiently well stocked and varied.
Within a few hundred metres were a bar, a friendly English speaking economical restaurant and a decidedly non-English speaking hairdresser. Walking distance away is a library fronting that area's main tram/ car route to the city centre.
As elsewhere in Croatia everyone is friendly even if non-English speakers ( rare ) and all prices are very low.
