Overpriced, sub-standard and dirty accommodation...
OVERPRICED: We spent 2 nights at Henrik Apartments: 1 night in August upon our arrival in Croatia and 1 night in September upon our departure. At the time of booking online, we thought it seemed expensive but thought this was to be expected in Croatia. However, after having traveled throughout Croatia for 5 weeks, we soon realised that it was grossly overpriced, especially taking into account the facilities and venue. When we returned to Zagreb in September for our departure, we queried the price as, firstly, it was NO LONGER HIGH SEASON and secondly, we were wiser as to what such accommodation should cost - especially given their venue and the facilities they offer. The attitude was one of "take it or leave it" and we were forced, at that late stage, to stay for the night.
Re QUALITY: When we booked online, we booked a “Private Double Ensuite” room, which according to the website description, means a PRIVATE bathroom. Upon arrival, we were given a tiny room with a SHARED bathroom and told that this was all there was available - again a "take it or leave it" attitude! Added to this, the bed was broken and we had to try to fix the loose slats of the bed's base, under the thin mattress, before we could sleep on it. At HRK440 per night (Euro 60.68), we soon enough discovered on our travels through Croatia just how badly we had been ripped off.
When we returned in September, we were given a bigger room downstairs with a private bathroom for the same price, which although still overpriced, particularly as it was end of season, further proves just how badly overcharged we had been for the first tiny room upstairs with a shared bathroom. Added to this, the downstairs room had no linen on the bed, although this was requested and we were forced to sleep on dirty pink toweling mattress protectors, which did not even cover the mattress properly. The Duvet covers were either also dirty or were so old and washed-out, that they felt dirty. They certainly did not smell fresh and clean.
The shower cubicle had broken racks that were tied up to hold them together and the cubicle was dirty. I have photographs of all of this. The bed was so small that we would not have been able to have a comfortable night's sleep and we had to use the sleeper couch. When we requested linen for the sleeper couch, the same type of pink toweling mattress protector was given to us in a crumpled up ball in a scruffy old plastic shopping bag.
We DO NOTrecommend Henrik Apartments at all! Its about time that travellers refuse to support businesses that overprice and under-supply based on the attitude that "this is Zagreb" (or wherever else) and therefore you must just pay whatever price they choose to charge and accept what is given as acceptable.
