“Not impressed”

We spent one night in this hotel on our car trip around Eastern Europe.

When booking the hotel (a few weeks before arrival) I clearly requested a non-smoking and quiet room. However we were assigned a smoking room facing the street with frequent local traffic. The windows really didn't keep the noise out. I even asked the receptionist if he could move us to a non-smoking room facing the backyard (instead of the main street side), but he refused because "you stay only one night" and claimed that there were no such rooms available (even though the hotel didn't seem to be even half full). I have had to change the room a few times before in other hotels, and never faced any problems before.

The area around the hotel is not very attractive, so I can only agree with the previous comments about it.

The room itself and bathroom were quite clean. I believe the rooms have been recently renovated. The air conditioning was effective and manually controlled. Breakfast was just okay.

It's about 20 min walk to downtown Zagreb from the hotel, but I would recommend taking the tram (the nearest stop is at the bus station) if you want to access the city more conveniently.

Overall, I would have rated this hotel higher if the management had respected our requests and if the hotel had a bit better (more central) location. Next time in Zagreb we will stay in another hotel.

“Excellent hotel, shame about the area”

Wea rrived at Zagreb station in a thunderstorm so took a taxi to the hotel for 600Kn. It is set in a rather bleak area of concrete boxes close to the bus station and tram stops. We were on the second floor with a balcony (room 209) which was an excellent room. The second floor looked nicer than the first floor and our room was tucked away in the corner so theer we no noise from other guests walking past or closing doors. Breakfast was limited although better than nothing. You have to walk through teh smokey bar to get to the breakfast but thankfully the breakfast room is separate.

The hotel is very clean and welcoming. It is easy to get into the city centre by tram and the price is very good value.

For an excellent meal go to Vinodols in the city centre.

“Reasonable”

In a city of overpriced hotels, the Slisko offers reasonable value, and it's fine for people who intend spending most of their time sightseeing, or who are just passing through. Room was simple but clean, a decent size, with crisp white sheets on a comfortable bed. The bar downstairs was unpleasantly smoky, but there are tables outside. Located 5 mins walk from the bus station in an uninspiring area, but the centre is only a short tram ride or 20 min walk away. Cold buffet breakfast included (the usual Croatian bread, cheese & sliced meats deal, plus yoghurts & muesli). Try to avoid rooms with the lit sign right outside the window - the curtains are very thin and the sign stays on all night.

“Excellent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2007

Hotel Slisko is about ten minutes from the main city bus station of Zagreb. It is very easy to find, just off the main street. Unfortunately the area around the hotel is not that great. Be careful about the drivers as they drive incredibly fast. Won our way to the hotel upon arrive by bus we witnessed a collision in which one pedestrian was nearly hit. Reception was excellent and our room faced the street and had a very nice balcony. The hotel was very clean in every way. Unfortunately though the breakfast room has some smoking allowed. Breakfast was quite good with a variety of options in the buffet. The little bar near reception was always full of smoke. We avoided that area, preferring to have a drink on our balcony. There is a convenience store right across the street from the hotel.

Zagreb is a lovely city. The hotel is within twenty minutes or so from the main square. People are very friendly and most spoke some English. Fluency in English was noted throughout Ljubljana, Croatia and Sarajevo. We enjoyed the sights.

The Hotel Slisko is good value for the money for a hotel in the downtown, 10 minutes from the bus station and about 20 or so from the main train station. Tramways run to the city of you prefer public transit to walking.

“good value”

the hotel is in a fairly central location, near to both bus and train stations. the main square about a 15 minute walk away.
it is in a residential area and its bar/restaurant is popular with locals throughout the day. especially breakfasts and early morning coffee. the rooms were clean and tidy, on suite and had a balcony.
staff were helpful and spoke english. overall it was good value for a central hotel in a capital city.
