“it's ok only for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed at Hotel Jadran for one night. The hotel is in a very good location. You can walk to Upper Town in a few minutes.

The hotel is a little bit old. I felt like I was in 90s. The rooms are simple with old furnitures and old carpets. The bathroom is also old but clean. In any case the hotel needs to renovate the rooms.

The breakfast is simple.

Considering the price and its location, if you don’t have a big expectation and you are thinking of staying for one night, it is a good place to stay.

“Very Unimpressive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The room was DIRTY! The guy at the front desk only wanted to steer us to a restaurant that obviously gave him a kick-back. He practically insisted on personally leading us there by the nose. The lobby was depressing. The street noise in our front room was enough to wake the dead. It wasn't particularly cheap.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel.

“Never Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

I stayed at the Hotel Jadran based on Rick Steves write up in his travel book. Normally Rick does a pretty good job but he certainly steered me wrong in this case. The one positive thing I can say is that the staff was very friendly, minus the lady that worked the breakfast in the morning. The location is very good as well but I am having a tough time justifying the location with what the condition of the hotel is in. In hindsight, I would have stayed in a different place.

The room I stayed in was large enough, although I was traveling solo. I think it would be pretty cramped if traveling as a couple. There is a small 13 inch tv in the room but the room itself was very dated and very dark, even with a wall of windows! My room faced the busy street and traffic noise was an issue. Fortunately it was cold out so I didn't have the windows open but it was still noisy. I can't imagine how it is in the summer when you would need the windows open as there didn't appear to be any air conditioning.

The bathroom was terrible. Very, very small, even by European standards. The stand up shower had a paper thin curtain that was about 2 inches too short - meaning that the water from the shower gets all over the floor and then leaks into the carpet in them main room.

Even though breakfast is included in the price, I honestly wouldn't bother with it. A very limited selection of bread and meat/cheese. You had to ask for yogurt and the unfriendly lady working there would begrudgingly get you one. The coffee is a joke. It was essentially black water. I didn't even know it was coffee until I found coffee grounds floating around.

The only reason I am not giving this a Terrible rating is because of the friendliness of the staff and I guess the location. Take my word, spend the extra money for a different location. I wish I had.

Room Tip: If you do end up staying here, try and ask for a quiet room that is NOT facing the roadway. It gets...

“A 3 star? No more!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Maybe this hotel used to be a 3 star years ago, but now it is old and run down.
The carpets are dirty and the rooms are generally dingy. The extra blanket in the closet was stained... I put it back! The "non-smoking room, smelled like smoke.
Parking is a pain and some rooms face a park so you hear voices all night.
The location is OK and the included breakfast was average.
In all, I would say you could do better.

“pretty low standard with cockroaches in the bathroom”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

This hotel should not be classed as a 3-star. At best, 2 stars. On arrival, given a smoking room, and when requesting a non-smoking, was told that 'all rooms are smoking and it's not in our control who smokes and who doesn't". This explanation came after a sticker on our floor saying 'no smoking floor'.

Cockroaches in the bathroom - not very nice after picking up your towel from the rack after stepping out of the shower dripping wet. Breakfast absolutely awful too - don't bother.

I think at this level and prices there must be many other options in Zagreb that are better.
