“nightmarish!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

The worst hotel I ever stayed! Old, dirty with fingerprints on the walls, no airconditioning so I had to open the window and get all the traffic noise of the thoroughfare, sheets and towels with holes and so worn out they felt like sandpaper. As for the breakfast room in the basement! And the location far from the centre in a squalid part of the city, so dark it gave you the creeps. And they have the nerve to classify as a 3star hotel. As I had prepaid I had no choice but to endure. It spoiled my visit to Zagreb. I have already complained to the tourist board of Zagreb.

“Dora - very basic & functional”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

I travelled with a large group of women to several cities in the central europe region and Hotel Dora in Zagreb was our most disappointing stay (relatively speaking).

On the face of it, there's nothing terribly wrong with the hotel. It's a very basic and functional place. Minimal choice at breakfast. Recently renovated, so the bathrooms looked clean and new. If you're not a very fussy person and don't necessarily want to be in the centre of town, then Dora is fine.

However, there are other reasons for you to reconsider Dora as an option:

1) No elevators - if you're the kind travelling with a lot of luggage, be prepared to haul your bags up several flights of stairs yourself.

2) Minimal staff - which means no housekeeping on a daily basis. So towels and sheets don't get changed. Also, not much help for the point mentioned above i.e. help with carrying bags.

3) No heating - this year, we didn't experience typical 'spring' weather even in mid/ late May. So evening and night temperatures were actually quite cold. But the hotel did not turn on the heating saying their winter/ cold season was over!!

“Don't go there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2009

When i first saw the photos of hotel on the web page and the outdoor appearance, i thought i would have nice & pleasant stay in Zagreb, BUT... I even didn't want to take pictures of my room on the ground floor(they would be more awful than the pics from rjung), or photos of the bathroom... it was untidy, small room, without air condition and horrible smell from the bathroom... Mirror was dirty, like it was "cleaned" with dirty duster... Shower tub was too small and also dirty, and i even found remains from a plastic bag for shower gel, from a guest before me; in the evening i had to wash my hair - hairdryer was full of dust! ... I barely could relax myself to sleep... I was just hoping that the sheets, pillow case and blanket is not from a guest(s) before me...and i still hope that! But it seemed like the only thing that was changed. Counterpane on the bed was also doubtful. The walls were splodgy, with hand prints and foot prints. Breakfast: cereals, milk & coffee, juice, tea,few frankfurter, joghurt and i don't remember anything else...but believe me, i ate only because i was very hungry, and only cereals wtih milk. Don't go there if you have an alternative... I was really disgusted. I didn't have time to find another hotel, but fortunately i booked only one night there... Awful hotel.

“Anywhere but Dora”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2005

We arrived by train to Zagreb and were able to carry our bags from the station to the Hotel Dora without too much problem. Zagreb had just experienced unusually warm temperatures and this was a harbinger of problems ahead. Upon ariving at the hotel, we were greeted warmly by the hotel staff and shown to our room on the first floor - spacious, with two rooms and a bath - this is where the favorable comments ended. Where to begin: no air conditioning (thus sweltering during our June stay), no maid service (thus our room remained unchanged during our stay and we needed to ask for replacement towels). However, the fine details of the decrepitude only emerged over time: the sheets did not fit the bed and became entangled in a tight ball overnight (picture of bare bed with wadded sheet included), the sheets themselves were tattered and worn beyond belief, the carpet was sticky (and since no maid service) became increasingly soiled during our stay, the bathroom was dingy, moldy, and far from a refreshing break from the sticky heat which percolated throughout the building adding to the funky smell. No cups for use in brushing teeth or drinking water. Everytime you took a shower the entire bathroom became wet. The wait staff were generally rude and condescending (this I learned was supposed to be a trademark of Zagreb wait staff who had been "specially trained", but was carried out to its most iconic level at the Hotel Dora). Never stay here....never, never. I am not one of those whining people so often seen on this site who find any little negative detail to latch on to and glory in the telling of short shrift - this is truly a woefull place and did I mention that it is in a particularly run down part of town?
