“Very Good.”

Location good. Public areas attractive. Bedroom spacious, comfortable and excellent toiletries supply. Too hot. Too noisy at night- party music from upstairs and around...
Gym is good for a hotel, but poor for a gym chain (it is actually part of a gym chain). Pool is lovely and sauna area is very good.
Great view from the room.
The hotel appears fairly unattractive from the outside but is nice inside. Very close to many trams and the theatre.

“Good value but don't come with other Westin Hotels in mind”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Overall this is a great hotel in terms of location, staff and value for money for business or vacation but be advised that this is not the most modern of hotels.

We had a 1 night stay in Zagreb on a road trip. The hotel was centrally located and easy to find. Staff were efficient and helpful and as we arrived by car the street parking with in the hotel grounds was also very easy to use.

Locationwise this hotel is on the edge of the old town centre with a short walk into the pedestrian alleys and squares that give Zagreb its character (Croatians too often forget to compliment their capital - it was a fantastic surprise in itself).

The hotel is not modern so while all the facilities are there (gym, restaurant, etc) some of the decor is aged. We found that it had been well maintained but also showed signs of age (e.g. furnishings and carpets). This was very true in the rooms where the sound insulation and air conditioning were not as good as more modern hotels. Sadly we were given a large room on a high floor but on the side of the building facing away from the Old Centre. Based on the view from the top floor and other reviews I would say this is a really big advantage.

The bed and linen was all very clean and comfortable and once the room temperature was also under control this was a very comfortable stay.

Based on the prices when we stayed I would say this is an good hotel option in a wonderful city. It is not big on charm or character nor does it have the Westin finish of more modern counterparts but its the staff and location do a good job of making you feel comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor facing the old city

Dear Sir, Thank you for staying at the Westin and thank you for sharing your impressions. I am glad you enjoyed your stay in the hotel and in Zagreb. The rooms of the hotel are all recently renovated and up to all Westin standards including the Heavenly Bed and Shower. We are just installing the new large LCD flat televisor, internet in the rooms is free, the faboulos large Wellness center is just one year. In addition we are planning the facelift of the venues on lobby level. I hope we will be able to welcome you back and remain with our best regards, Gunnar Sanne, General Manager

“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Stayed at this hotel for a business trip and was pretty pleased. The view of the city on the top floor is pretty beautiful, especially at night! The staff was nice, room was clean and bed was really comfortable! Only a 10 min walk to the center so that was nice as well. Food at the buffet was mediocre, but wasnt a big deal. So all around it was a pretty decent hotel.

Room Tip: If you stay on higher floors and ask for rooms facing the city, the view is really nice

Dear Sir, thank you for staying at the Westin and thank you for sharing your impressions online. I agree that the hotel has a perfect location, both for business and leisure purposes.
From our rooms, you have a splendid view of the city. I take the note of the buffet and will review with the chef what we can improve. Normally we get good feedback for the buffet and it is popular both among hotel guests and guests from the city and is a good variety of domestic specialities. We are looking forward to welcome you back to Zagreb and to the Westin and remain with our best regards, Gunnar Sanne, General Manager

“Good all round hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

The hotel is in a pretty good location to see Zagreb by foot or by public transport. Although from the outside it may not be the prettiest of buildings, inside it is a nice hotel with polite and helpful staff, a pleasant reception area with cafe and bar area to match. The hotel has 4 lifts so waiting to get to your floor is not long. We travelled in a group of 10 and we all stayed on the 8th floor, which was handy. We did ask for non-smoking rooms and we got them but at times the corridors had cigarette smells in them. Our room was good maybe not 5* good but for the deal we got it was ideal. The rooms are not the biggest, and maybe a little dated, but the standard Westin Heavenly Bed is always going to outweigh any minor faults. That said our room was incredibly hot even for late December so hot we couldn't sleep the 1st night, and with the A/C unit set to only blow out warm air it was uncomfortable to say the least, another room in the group also had the same but the other 3 rooms were fine, although 1 of the groups rooms was ajoining the next-door room via a door in the room, which was occupied by some noisy people up all night almost, so my friends asked to be moved and they were and all was fine. The cleaners where friendly but maybe a little lapse, didn't empty our pretty full bin one day, , and there was some quite thick dust on our desk top and bed headboard top, one day our towels where took away and not replaced, but again, within 2 minutes of calling reception we had towels. Just minor things to grumble about but nothing major. The showers where great, powerful and had two shower heads for double the fun.
Breakfast was good I would say, having stayed in a quite a few 4 and 5* hotels it was a good breakfast, choice was good, quality was ok, and on the days the hotel was busy, the staff seemed unable to cope with clearing tables when people left, try and avoid peak times is best.
Although we never used the gym and pool, we did go and have a look, and the gym looked very well equiped and was quite large, and the pool looked very good, and relaxing.
Another thing we had to deal with was upon checking out we where presented with a mini-bar bill, aprox 8 or 9 drinks we where supposed to have had, but we had none, after a little bit of explaining/ complaining/ protesting our innocence and a bit of discussion with there chief of cleaning we where told it was sorted and not to worry about it. The thing was all of our friends' fridges had these little silver tag labels 'locking' the fridge doors when we arrived, our fridge never, so it is worth checking this to avoid any agro later. Also 1 of our group did have a couple of beers from his fridge and the second one turned out to be water so check for tampered with bottles before opening, but that said the hotel again did not charge him when he reported it. In general the hotel is good and for all its little faults they quickly resolved them. Worth staying here and if you like pizza, I would recommend a restaurant called 'Karijola' it is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

“Wanted to rate the rate this hotel higher.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Check in was functional and I was upgraded to a better room on the 13th floor due to my status as a Gold Spg member, so a great start ))). The room itself was great, really good view and open space environment. Lounge area and separate bedroom. After being there a while I started to notice that the cleaning was not really up to scratch ie some of the furniture was stained specifically the chair and the foot rest, telephone was dirty. Now I do appreciate that this is minor (if not disgusting) but never the less if I was actually paying for this level of room I would have been very very disappointed. The lack of general care and maintenance (once I noticed it) seemed to be everywhere. The was a hand print on the lift door that was not cleaned off the entire length of my stay, turn down service consisted of making the bed and nothing else, no lights being turned down, no curtains closed or slippers put out. Getting through on the service express number was a joke to the point that I had to ring through to reception to arrange a wake up call.

The breakfast selection for the number of people staying at the hotel seemed very small however seemed to be adequate. The food seemed to be replenished on a regular basis. Again good service from the staff there.

The gym was quite frankly one of the best I have seen with every piece of workout equipment that you can think of, staff seemed to come across as very helpful. The changing area for the swimming pool (big pool not heated) felt very basic and communal and unclean if that make any sense. Now again the attention to cleaning and maintenance was not here either, shower curtains in the sauna shower area were torn from their rings and there was a general lack of maintenance.

Overall the staff were great and really I could not fault anyone that I came into contact with but do remember this is supposed to be a five star hotel and the points that I have raised regarding cleaning, lack of maintenance and the service express facility are ones that should never be issues in a five star hotel to begin with. When I come back to Zagreb again I will try and stay in another Spg hotel.
