tried to book with the hotel directly but was proposed a 10€ higher fare than on octopus. efficient although coldish check-in. got a single room with a queen size bed facing on a wide open inner courtyard where i could see on the north side the higher building of the Ban Jelacic square and especially the magnific bell towers of the cathedral. room and bathroom (shower) not huge but adequate. few problems encountered: a duvet and a too soft pillow which i both hate, the first resulting too hot during the night, the other unconfortable for my neck... the other problem was heating which was not perfectly controllable with the electronic regulator. had a HUGE tv which i frankly used very seldom, a minibar (never used) and excellent storage space. everything working perfectly but that heating control. cleaning maid was excellent and well organised: she always managed to clean up my room in the short time when i was having breakfast. this was very inviting with a large cold/warm buffet, several kind of yoghurts, fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, even soy milk (!), an incredible choiche of jams (8 !), patés, honey and so on... i had a lunch once at the hotel restaurant and found food + service excellent and value for money. hotel location is unbeatable, it is in fact the most centrally located place in whole zagreb (even better than the Palace or the Jaegerhorn, which are also very central), i was leaving from the hotel door and i was just in the middle of the nice christmas market and really a few steps from the main square where there was a tram stop where i could reach the whole town (2 stops/5 mins. from the main railway station and 5 stops/15 mins. from the bus station). a friendly and efficient bell-boy advised me about a reliable dentist to find the in the hotel surroundings which turned out to be a good choice. overall a very good experience, the location is definitely worth the few euros you could pay more compared to less centrally located places (and in zagreb you have plenty of hotels miles away from the center, beware!...), a good service -with probably the exception of some efficent but not too friendly receptionists-, a good room and a very clean propriety throughout. a place to warmly recommend (despite my hate for duvets!...)
