My partner and I stayed in this hotel on our last night in Bulgaria and out of the total of six hotels we stayed in, this one did by far the best buffet breakfast, which made it a personal favourite for me. If you are hoping for a full English/cooked breakfast with bacon, sausage, beans etc then you may be disappointed- however in fact we did not find this anywhere during our stay, and breakfast in the other hotels we visited (mainly three-star ones) generally consisted of tea/coffee and bread with a piece of cheese and ham! This one (along with the ubiquitous above) included eggs cooked to order, salad, juice, cakes/muffins, cereals and jam, and I was full for most of the day.
Another aspect in which Hotel the House stood out was the quality of the bathroom and shower, which was a 'rain' shower within its own section of the bathroom, and definitely the most luxurious one I had in Bulgaria. Bathroom was very large and clean, no issues with getting hot water (very important in November!)
Overall, these were the bits I liked best about Hotel the House:
- Breakfast (included)
- Quality of shower and bathroom
- Size of hotel room- in fact more of an apartment as there was a separate living room, entrance room and hallway
- Hotel receptionist was very friendly and helpful, and even came up to our room in the early morning to give us a wake-up call (as there was no telephone in our room)
- Well heated, in fact we found that it was usually warm enough without the heating on
- Very good value for what we paid
- Convenient location, just off Vitosha Boulevard
The things I thought could be improved:
- Would have been good to have a computer for people to use (although they do have free wi-fi for people bringing their own laptops)
- Wasn't keen on decor of bedroom, I thought that the dark colour of the beds and carpet gave the room a bit of a 'creepy' feel. This was the only real negative however. Overall it was my favourite place to stay in Bulgaria and I would definitely stay there again.
