We needed to stay somewhere close to Sofia main railway station as we would be arriving late and departing early the next morning. This place fitted the bill, being pretty much across the main road from the station and reasonably priced. The receptionist was very helpful in ordering us a pizza delivery and also telling us that the (crap) beer selection in the hotel bar was overpriced and that we'd be better visiting the shop across the road (which was true!). WiFi in room worked perfectly as did the air con. Room and bathroom spotless. What more could you want?!

I stayed in The Plaza from 17 to 20 October this year. It is the best hotel within my price range I have found over 8 years of visiting Sofia. There was parking for my car, a taxi rank within a 2 minute walk and it was a pleasant 10 minute walk to the centre. The hotel staff were wonderful - friendly and engaging - everyone spoke English, was outstandingly helpfull and cheerful, and breakfast was generous. My room was comfortable, warm and well cleaned daily. I heartily recommend The Plaza to everyone, for its value, quality of staff, and convenience. On every return trip I shall be staying at the Plaza.
I would prefer a softer mattress and pillows.

In general the Sofia Plaza hotel is a clean, quiet and nice hotel for a reasonable rate. Having breakfast in the small garden adds to the possitive experience. But besides that I had an interesting 'issue'.

I've booked the hotel via bookings.com the night before I would arrive. When I arrived at the hotel it turned out that my booking was not registered yet. So I've called bookings.com to have them explain that my booking was there and paid in advance. The staff of the hotel apologized for this (it probably was not their fault) and before they received the booking by email they already handed me over the key of my room and wished me a pleasant stay. I didn't even show my creditcard.

The next day I was leaving again but it was no problem for me to stay in the garden and drink a coffee and work on my laptop till about 3pm (hours after checking out). It would be great if all hotels would have staff like these guys.

Walkers amongst you .. watch the pavements ... a lot of trip hazards
Taxis are cheap there are different rated ones but still a lot cheaper than UK prices
