“good service”

The small hotel has good size rooms
Showers very small and no bath
The beds are very low and few inches from the floor . They are not very comfortable and not the best if you have back problems or sleep problems.
The position is good about 10 minutes walk to center
The hotel is clean
It has no lift and it is hard to walk to the top floor
The reception are is very small but the staff are good and very friendly
Internet is free

“Perfectly fine if you don't mind making a few sacrifices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2010

We came to Sofia for a 3 day stag-do so we didn't need anything special, just a place to lay our heads, in a decent location and not falling apart. On these counts the hotel gets three ticks.

We took 'the apartment' and two 3-bed rooms. Since I only stayed in the apartment I can't comment on the other rooms but I heard no complaints from the other guys I was with.

The apartment was fine, very roomy and comfy beds. We had 7 of us staying in there so expected 7 single beds but instead there were double beds and a couple camp beds which was a bit disapointing. I ended up sleeping on the massive sofa instead as it was bigger than the camp beds and still got a few good nights sleeps.

The bathroom looked nice but wasn't great for 7 guys. The main shower leaked so flooded the floor. There was a drain in the middle of the floor which didn't make this a big problem but sure a non-leaking shower would have been more effective. Also, it took ages for the water to drain away. The other shower was over the bath with no screen so was also a bit crazy. And only one toilet. For such a big space two bathrooms would have been better.

The service was perfectly fine. Spoke good English and friendly. The breakfast was very poor. Served in the reception it consisted of a cake (breakfast?), espresso a 'shot' of OJ (can have more if you ask) and a pre-packed meat and cheese sandwhich which looked, smelt and some say tasted aweful. As we didn't get up till late most days we usualy ate elsewhere (McDonalds one and some nice bars/restaurants other days).

The location was perfect being close enough to all you need if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Even if you do go further than we did the taxis are so cheap it doesn't matter. From the brief time we were there, it seems Sofia has some very well-off parts and those that seem a lot poorer, this was in the later nicer areas were a very short walk away and you lose nothing for staying in the poorer area.

I hear some people saying rooms at the front were noisy. As we didn't stay there it's hard to say but from where were it was perfectly quiet and we all got a good nights sleep every night.

For the price it was fine, many 'classier' hotels in Sofia but this will suffice, especially if you don't usualy eat breakfast.

“No frills but close to everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

The room was clean and spacious but basic, though with fast, reliable and free internet. There are nearby shops and markets including a pub restaurant over the road with typical Bulgarian dishes for a few Euros. (The huge soups are less than a Euro.) Trams to almost everywhere meet at a nearby intersection. The hotel 's street is apparently quite famous, with a shopping area at one end and markets and a laundrette two tram stops away in the opposite direction.
The toasted sandwich plus coffee and juice breakfast gets very boring after a few days but you have many local options; very cheap pastries or, during summer many fruits.
The rack rate of 80 Euros would be a little expensive but at the 40 Euros per night I paid this hotel was excellent vaule.

“Very comfortable room but poor breakfast and not for non-smokers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

If you book this hotel, choose one which ends in "01" as they are at the back and overlooking a garden and few other flats. They will be the quiet rooms. Rooms at the front overlook a busy street with cars and tramways. The beds were very comfortable and our room was very quiet and kept clean.

However, it would have been nice to be able to switch the air conditioning off ourselves...

Breakfast consisted of tea / coffee, a fruit juice, a sandwich and a tasteless cake full of E numbers. When Reception was asked if we could have fresh pastries from the local bakery, the answer was negative because "the breakfast they offer is the same as any other hotel in the world". Not the case in our experience of travelling the world over the past 20 years... The breakfast area was too small and - despite the non-smoking signs in the Reception and the bar / breakfast room areas - the night Receptionist and cleaner would smoke in there and also while people were having breakfast!

In general, Bulgaria is not a suitable destination for non-smokers: expect smoking everywhere, including taxis...
