Although the hotel is clean, the staff are helpful, and the beds are reasonably comfortable, I would not stay at Hotel California again. The place is advertised as being close to the city center, but it is not a walkable distance from the main attractions unless you enjoy walking through construction sites, ill-kempt sidewalks, and unlabeled streets. The hotel is on a dingy side-street that is mostly residential, so we did not feel safe walking home at night. On top of that, half of the cab drivers we hailed in the city center did not know (or pretended not to know) where the hotel was located. The "breakfast" consisted of one stale piece of cake, a piece of ham, and coffee that tasted as if it were brewed the previous day. Our rooms perpetually smelled like cigarette smoke and we could hear everything that was going on in the rooms next to ours - including the drunken yelling and subsquent puking of a Bulgarian man at 8am.
