As soon as we walked in the room, we wanted to check out. In fact, we would have if we hadn't just arrived on the overnight train. The room was tiny, ugly, and smelled. The location was far away from the city center. The staff was useless as a whole. It was recommended to us as a "recently renovated luxury hotel" which is absolute rubbish.

We needed to end our wonderful stay in Bulgaria with one night in a hotel and UNLUCKILY we found Hemus Hotel. For its location and price range it is undoubtedly the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. The newly renovated rooms are small, seem dirty, smell of chlorine and cigarette smoke; the staff are slow and inflexible; the tv showed only static. When we checked out, after reminding the donkey like receptionist that we had to pay our mini bar bill (she had totally fogotten and we were being honest) we found that we were 0.70 lev short for the bill to pay in cash - this is less than 0.4 euro or 0.2 pounds. She would not let us off this amount, which is even small
in Bulgaria - she would not let us split the bill between cash and card or euros and lev. At 1am she even made us wait while she served 3 other customers! We only stayed there because the clean, centrally located Hotel Niky didn't have rooms left - take a tip from me, book ahead and stay anywhere but the Hemus.

what can i say about the hotel hemus
well it was suppose to have been renovated a few years ago, but you could not see were, we had a great view of the cith from the 18th floor but it was so noisy all night long sofia is a place that does not sleep but the noise was bad, bed was well uncomfortable the shower had a horrible curtain that kept sticking to me and i hate that, a sort of part time bar with a very nice bar lady though, the female reception staff were very nice polite and helpfull, the male reception were just on the take (full stop) i think the night porter tried to charge me 10 levs for farting one night, a good lap dancing bar below the hotel and you had to back hand the night staff again to go there and pick up a girl. the casino was good and friendly, overal everyone in sofia is on the take, but find your self a good speaking english taxi driver they no everything that is the best way.
maybe things will change now the eec is there some things not for the better i think but some for.
