Scotty's Boutique is a modest property on a rather unassuming Sofia side street, but inside, down the hall and the up the stairs (no elevator here) is a fairly amazing hotel deal for the price. My room, the "Sofia" room, was a double, more spacious than necessary with bright, clean, and fairly uninspired decor, especially when compared to the safari-themed "Cape Town" room. The Sofia also had a bit more furniture than I'd been conditioned to expect from the other low-to-mid-range hotels in the Balkans: a coffee table, a chaise, an additional armchair -- and even with all the extra furniture, the space still felt airy and open. Breakfast was a bit sparse, it was a room-service tray with a lone croissant on it, if I remember correctly, but there's a major Sofia marketplace down the block with a wider array of breakfast choices. But that's my only complaint, and when I return to Sofia, Scotty's Boutique Hotel will definitely be my accommodation of choice.
