So, I was on a trip with friends to Sofia to watch football. I wanted a cheap hotel, somewhere with a roof and a bed - and that is just about all I got.
A four star hotel in name, but in the 21st century and perhaps in Western Europe Rodina Hotel would be a two star hotel. The mattresses were so soft with springs sticking out that is felt many a decade since they were in need of replacement. The curtains, carpet and decor could have been straight out of a 1970s Michael Caine movie; old, drink stained and stubbed out cigarettes - it was in need of refurbishment.
Is there anything positive to say? Yes! The minibar is the cheapest of any hotel I've every stayed in. 20p for a soft drink, 30p for snacks. Bargain! The manager of the fitness center in the basement was a knowledgable, good, helpful bloke. The pool itself is fine, the gym equipment, like the rooms and the rest of the hotel was very very dated.
Location was average, around a 10min walk into the centre of Sofia although taxi's are cheap enough. If you're on a lads trip on a budget, this place does the job, if you're with your other half then I'd stay somewhere more upmarket.
