I stayed here for one night on a tour. My room was on the ground floor, it had a gloomy seating area and tiny bathroom with a wet floor. The only window was up near the ceiling and to close it my husband had to stand on a table. The twin beds were on a mezzanine floor, clean and spacious but there were no curtains on the window to keep out the street light, only a floor-to-ceiling drab net curtain which made the room look cheerless.
There was no bar. Dinner was a set meal ( they may not do dinners normally) and there was much adverse comment. For dessert we were each handed a banana, unripe and not even on a plate.
Luckily we all had a sense of humour. The buffet- style breakfast was fine.
This hotel would be OK for students on a budget.

I recently stayed (twice) at the Astra Garni Hotel.This was my first trip to BA and did not know what to expect. Well, I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is located right in the middle of the old town, next to shops, cafés, restaurants, bakeries etc..There is excellent free WiFi access. The rooms are very comfortable, and all have a minibar and TV (though I did not watch it so I cannot say if its any good). The staff is friendly and helpful. On the more negative side, in BA there is no smoke ban in public places and there are many smokers. As a consequence everything smells bad especially the carpeting and curtains. That is the case in the Hotel Astra Garni (but it is everywhere the same, including restaurants, offices etc..). Also I thought the rooms were slightly overheated and the hotel does not offer room service nor restaurant. It only serves breakfast (quite a good selection of food in fact) but in the hotel basement which is not so pleasant. The walls are a little thin too. But I must say that I enjoyed my stay and will be happy to stay there again next time I travel to Sarajevo.

Be careful - there are 2 Hotel Astras in Sarajevo, very close to one another. This one is the Astra Garni, 3* and well worth it. Superb location in the heart of the Ottoman centre of Sarajevo. The hotel is modern, the rooms are well appointed, clean and simply furnished, the staff helpful and English speaking. Breakfast is continental, plentiful, fresh and lots of coffee or tea are provided too. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. I stayed with 15 others on a trip to Sarajevo and we all really enjoyed the hotel and the city, even trying to stay a few days longer it was so special. As the hotel is right in the centre parking is a nightmare, so leave the hire car in the car park nearby if you have one.

I can't compare the Astra Garni to any other hotel in Sarajevo as I stayed at the Astra Garni during my one visit. It is a very basic hotel, no frills or luxuries, but then again you don't go to Sarajevo for luxury. The room was rather small and the linens were kind of scruffy. The bathroom was rather large and basic. The best part of the hotel was its central location.
