Located in the very centre of the old town and just a few minutes walk from the central mosque, this hotel is perfect for budget travelers. I paid around 90 marks per night but enjoyed a lovely room with a view over the old town, a great breakfast and friendly service. Plus it's the first hotel I've been to which tries to save energy using innovative card swipes for electricity.

Finally, a decent hotel in Sarajevo. After indifferent experiences at the Holiday Inn and Hotel Bosnia (to be fair - it was cheap and staff friendly), spent 3 nights at Hotel Astra. Large rooms with air con, luxury bathrooms, good breakfast and across the road from tourist office, bars and bookstores. Barely 5 minutes walk to Turkish quarter. Tip: got a discount for paying cash, 154KM per night - not cheap but fair. Astra group has bought another hotel down the road, and friends tell me their restaurant in hilly outskirts of Sarajevo is good. The room got some street noise, but that wasn't a big deal for me.
