“Hated it!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

(Travelled August 2010)
Don't stay here, unless you want to sleep in someones living room...

My friend and I had made a reservation but when we arrived, the man at reception said that the hostel was full, and took us into a house where a lady gave us a key to her living room. As we went up the stairs there was a girl asleep on a bed in the landing. The living room had a lock on the door, and she folded out her sofas for us to sleep on. My friend who is Croatian was trying to explain to the lady that this is not what we had booked, but she was insistent that it was fine and that we should pay at reception in the morning. The 'ensuite' in the living room was a bucket with a shower curtain. After about an hour of giggles and thinking that we were being punk'd (!!) we decided to stay as it was getting late and we didn't know where else to go - after all we had a lock on the door.

First thing in the morning we left (the girl on the landing had already gone!) and booked into somewhere else!

“Mixed feelings about this one”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

It's a bit hard to give a proper review as we didn't stay in the building pictured on the HostelBookers website. Apparently this is only the reception area and people are housed elsewhere in the city, in nameless buldings more or less close by. So, who or what is Posillipo?

Although we had a reservation the place was overbooked. We arrived at 11 o'clock in the evening and the reception was closed. Some other people were also waiting to get in. We called the owner but it took about 45 minutes for him to arrive. Then we found out there was no room in spite of our reservation. He then had to make quite a few calls to find us a place to stay for the night. Because of the film festival everything was fully booked. In the end he brought us to a hotel, which was more expensive but he covered the difference. The hotel itself was fine, with friendly staff and well situated. We wouldn't have minded staying there!

The next day we were brought to a location in the Old Town a few minutes away from the reception. We were given a room upstairs, adjoining the common room. The shared bathroom was downstairs and well equipped, Strangely enough the kitchen area did not have a kitchen. The room was rather small, likewise the bed which was a bit narrow for two people. For one night though, it's okay. One guest without accommodation was allowed to sleep over in the common room, but this wasn't a hassle.

All in all a mixed experience, I am sure there are other places that offer you a better deal, but then again there must be worse places too. Not recommended for couples, this a backpackers' place, depending we guess on where you end up staying.

“Great location, comfy hostel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2011

Just stayed the night out of season, didn't get to meet the friendly owner everyone speak of on other sites but the most happening area of Sarajevo is on your doorstep. Just beware the color coding on the shower control is opposite which gave me a nasty shock when I tried to turn the het up :)

“Excellent Location in Bascarsija”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2009

this is the best location you can get outside the tramstop in the heart of bascarsija. walking distance to everything. bakery and convenience store steps away. next door is a restaurant that plays live folk music in the evenings though not too noisy as you can only hear from the alleyway outside and not in your room. in the distance you can hear faint church bells and mosque prayer calls. they upgraded me to a room with two single beds when i had just booked a single room. owner salim is very friendly and speaks good english. the other lady that works there fatima is nice but didnt speak english. she walked a good 20 mins in the rain with me to show me how to get to Vratnik which is exceptional customer service!! i would definately stay here again for the location, friendliness, and price. only downside is owner is not always onsite so nobody was there when i arrived or when i wanted to check out. i walked past the alley a few times before i figured out this is where the hostel was
