“You can do better elsewhere.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and I stayed 2 nights on arrival in Sarajevo prior to moving in to a flat. We had booked by phone and confirmed by e-mail but the booking had been lost and so we were not met at the airport as arranged.
We were given a very strange room (603) in what appeared to be an annex. Not a single wall was at right angles. A double bed and a single. No table or chair and just one rather cupboard for clothes. NB there is no lift.
The linen was old but clean while the towels were shabby and there was no soap in the bathroom. The room was totally quiet but, as noted in another review the bright light from the passage shines in to the room with no obvious way to turn it off unless you ask reception.
The breakfast had no hot food at all and only a small selection of ham & cheese with one kind of jam and just cornflakes as cereal.
The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke reasonable English.
The hotel is not at all easy to find on a very narrow street, but the location is convenient for the old town - about 10 minutes downhill.
If you can get a double room for EUR 35 to 40 then it's OK for a few nights but you can probably do better for the money.

Room Tip: Avoid room 603!

“If you want to feel like you are staying with friends .. stay at the Hayat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Arrived to Sarajevo on Dec 28th and found out that the accommodation we thought we had, we actually didn't! Through a good friend from Sarajevo, we managed to get a room at the Hayat and from that moment on ... nothing was too much trouble for Elma, Elvira and Malik, who we met as great reception staff and upon leaving, ended up calling them friends :)
If you expect 4 or 5 star luxury, you will not get it. If you expect lavish breakfast, you won't get that either. But ... if you want a decent and clean accommodation, absolutely acceptable breakfast in a bright and happy dining area .... small hotel in a perfect location, only a short walk from Bascarsija where everything you need is located .. if you want a smile and a great attitude from all of the staff, not just the reception ... if you want to experience true warmth of Sarajevo people, in the heart of that great city ... if you want a safe parking place ..... if you want an attitude where nothing is a problem ....you will get it all. Isn't that the real meaning of travel and meeting people? We will definitely come back to this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a cabinet for clothes and a chair .. as some rooms don't have it. Also, if l...

“Very good for the price, but might be a bit noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Positive: Very good for staying as a single, esp. in term of price compared to other hotels / guesthouses in town. Double is twice the price for the same room (like many other hotels in Bosnia) - which I never understand. Rooms are clean, with very good heating, hot water, which is essential for stays during winter.
Negative: The room is a bit small for couples and the noise from the corridor might echoed and be heard from the room.

“The best choice as a balance of price and quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

I will always recommend this place to others because of its great position above city downtown core Bascarsija and its low price but nice service and friendly staff. If you travel by car, do not worry about your 4 wheel pet. If you are too spoiled asking high luxury, forget about this hotel, however, if you like to be treated as welcomed dear guest in warm surround, it is just a right choice for you. If you are intending to stay in Sarajevo for more days and do not want to spend too much on accommodation, but also need some home warmness and excellent wireless internet, bingo!

Room Tip: do not waist your time with tips like this....just enjoy your stay

“Four star is just for decoration”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

You will see on the nameplate Hayat Hotel with 4 stars. But it is definitely not! Also you will see the sticker of the trip advisor saying that "hotel reviewed at trip advisor". This sign should not give you any confidence because to be reviewed does not mean every time that's a nice hotel.
We stayed one night at 101. it was a poor 3 star hotel. Pros are: free parking, free wifi, spacious enough room&bathroom. Cons:High price, rusty room with ikea style decoration, poor breakfast, a little far from the old city center.
We came without reservation, saw the room before we take so i could not complain more, but there was not much alternatives as it was a high season and Hayat Hotel was one of the last options.
Although the 2 receptionists were kind enough.
