Stayed three nights at Villa Tafaj on a longer swing through the Balkans. Best thing is the central location only five minutes from Tirana's main square and about half the distance from the downtown airport bus stop. It's also close to the avenue (between the main square and train station) where you catch long distance buses to other countries around Albania.
My room was spacious and clean, with a small window overlooking the garden area in the back of the hotel. Bed a little old and lumpy, but comfortable all the same. Bathroom small but adequate including plenty of hot water. Air con worked fine; definitely needed in summer. Room amenities included a desk computer with free internet service, plus a minibar with free water, orange juice and chocolate bar.
Young woman at the front desk (who seemed to be on duty 16 hours a day) spoke perfect English and was very helpful with directions and local information. Breakfast in the hotel's garden restaurant was simple but filling. Lunch and dinner menus at the same eatery offered a number of really good Albanian dishes, plus inexpensive (cold) local beer. Overall a very pleasant experience at a very reasonable price. I would definitely stay there again.
