Having arrived late on my flight into Tirana, I was approached by the swarm of taxi drivers as soon as I got there--they are the most persistant I have ever encountered--one even followed me to the hotel! In any case, the bus to town stops running at around 18h00 (or 19h00, I am pretty sure the cabbies lied to me that night), and I hated the idea of having to pay the cabbies since their approach was such a turn-off--as I mentioned they will lie to you and tell you there is no bus, or tell you that the bus is for personnel only which it is not, as I found out the next day. But in any case as soon as I walked outside, I saw this hotel and thought I would give it a try.
They were doing construction on it, although I was not disturbed as I heard no noise. The best, and most surprising part, was the price--25 Euro for an airport hotel, and I had no reservation--unheard of anywhere else! I am sure they can get more and will when construction is done, but that shouldn't be for a while. I was very pleased and was shown a room on the third floor. I did pass a construction area, and the elevator was not working, but that was not an issue for me. I went down, had a very light meal as suggested by one of the owners (I was sick from the flight) in the restaurant. The food is good, and breakfast the next day was warm and good as well--an omelette with coffee. Especially after having seen what other hotels were like in Albania, I consider this better than a two-star hotel in Paris, which is more than sufficient. I was able to get the local bus into town the next day and overall saved myself a nice chunk of change.
The rooms only have heat pumps, so make sure you know how to turn yours on (the staff showed me) before you go to bed or you could wake up cold, as it gets cold at night. The bathroom in my room was typical of a three-star Paris hotel, nice and clean, and it had a bidet.
The phone number I provided is one of the owner's mobile phones, as the hotel was having some problems with the phone service when I got there. I think that was a general problem, as it took me three days to reach another hotel in Albania before I went there, so you have a better chance to get through if you use a mobile phone anyway. I should also mention that, to my surprise, I was told that despite being right next to the airport, the hotel experiences power outages like the rest of the city even though the airport doesn't. I did not have any during my stay, however. But all hotels in Albania are subject to the power outages, so that should not deter you from staying here.
While the location is not in the center of town, if your flight gets in after 6PM (18h00), this is a great alternative and it is in a quiet (but not dead) suburb. I would stay here again definitely, especially if I had an early morning flight out or my flight got in after 18h00.
