“Weird but do-able”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

If You go to North-Korea/Pyongyang, You must understand that this is not Your average holiday resort. So stars and everything else must be read with "DPRK filters on"...

So, the hotel is huge colosseum of socialism. There are 1001 rooms. Ours was ok and looking other pictures from Koryo-hotel, they seem alike. So does the reception and isles. We spent there 2 nights and I think that is enough. Food is really weird, just like everything in this country. There are basicly no cars in this capital town...

“Promo video”

This is the hotel's promotional video which a friend recorded directly from the hotel's TV network. It is shown in the foyer and in guest rooms when the national TV station goes off air around 11pm. Hopefully TripAdvisor will allow this link to be published as there's very little information available on the internet about this hotel:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rz1sadURGBg

The video gives a good idea of the facilities, though is very North Korean in style. I have already reviewed the hotel here so won't add any further comments about it.

“Weird Throwback but Comfortable”

I guess by DPRK standards this hotel was nice. You really have no choice anyway; you stay where your tour says you stay. The hotel is huge! The lifts can be frustrating & have a mind of their own. Bring everything with you to breakfast for the day as it takes too long to go back to your room then back down. I stayed on the 33rd floor. The view of Pyongyang is amazing from all directions! Bed was a bit hard but you'll find that commonly in China too. AC seemed to be permamently set at 25C & you couldn't change it at all. Best thing is to open the window & the room door to let the air flow through but then later close the door to keep the cigarette smoke from other rooms out. The bathroom was clean though the shower head kept sliding around towards the wall. There is an option of sending emails at the business centre near the lobby but you need to fill in a form to do so & it costs 3 EUR per email! Not worth it so save emailing til you leave the country. The bar next to the lobby serves a decent beer. Be sure to check out the basement out of curiousity but it is seriously depressing down there. Breakfasts in the restaurant #2 was average & the same each day, but plenty of food. We generally ate out at local restaurants anyway. there are plenty of shops in the hotel to buy drinks, snacks & a bookstore to buy the usual DPRK propaganda (books, etc.). Be aware that you need to buy stuff in small denominations of euros or Chinese RMB since they rarely have enough change.

Room Tip: you generally get what is given to you.

“Funny but quite okay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Our tour agency chose the hotel for us, we are not quite sure if there's another better hotel, but this is quite okay, clean bed, friendly but not helpful staff, expensive internet, a casino (some claimed that there was a brothel but I'm not sure), a few overpriced restaurant, a bowling and snooker place, shoe repair, etc.

It must be one of the weirdest hotels in the world, you feel like you are trapped in this big compound, but it's not too bad to spend 3 nights there.

The toilet in the room is clean, make sure you don't pour water on the floor while you are taking a shower, the water won't go as there's no drainage on the floor... strange!

“Its big.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

Stayed here for 7 nights over a 14 night period.
Its on an island along with the National Cinema and the Football stadium. The benefit of being located here is that you can walk out of the hotel without your "guide" - but only for a shourt distance!
Room was large with a seperate lounge area. Bathrom had a bath and shower.
Breakfast is in the main restaurant on the ground floor and was the usually selection. Service can be a bit slow if its very busy.
There are a number of restaruants serving lunch and dinner, but whether you eat in these will be dictated by your guide. There is a rotaing restaurant on the top floor thats worth a visit, if only to see how dark Pyongyang is at night!!
