“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Don`t miss the Marquesas if you are visiting French Polynesia, they are spectacular and unlike the Society Islands only have some 5,000 tourists a year so are very unspoilt.
We spent 5 days at this hotel and wished we had booked for a full week. Being located above the main bay, it is ideally located for a pleasant walk round to the main `town` (try the crepes from Nadia`s van at the end - great for a light lunch!). The bungalows are of a very high quality, with lovely verandahs and well spaced for privacy (something one does not often find in Polynesia).
The restaurant serves excellent food and the beautiful infinity pool, although small, never had more than one or two people in as everyone tended to be out on excursions for much of the day.
The staff were always extremely helpful and the manageress kept an eye on everything, circulating and talking to guests not only at breakfast but also in the evening to ensure that we were well looked after and to help with appropriate excursions. We had a wonderful day ourselves with Richard as our guide, including, at special request, a walk up onto the ridge overlooking Anaho Bay - his enormous knowledge of plants, wildlife and Polynesian culture was a delight and his English perfect.
We felt that the costs of transfers and excursions were not unreasonable bearing in mind the high costs one can pay on other islands for far less demanding/ exciting journeys! Can absolutely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We particularly enjoyed our bungalow, positioned slightly below the main hotel, with a bay view beca...

“Good hotel in a great location.”

This was second hotel of our 3.5 wk honeymoon. Rooms are good (not very big), service is a variation. Pool is small. Only had breakfast or pool-snack there, did eat out in village (Moana Nui, 15minute walk). Bay view rooms, perfect view of the area. Flowers everywhere.

Hotel adds 50% on excursions, so better book directly with a guide. Internet isn't cheap, but as we mostly stayed in the Pearl hotels, we bought a 50hr manaspot card for 125.000xpf, enough for whole vacation.

fri evening: DJ at the hotel, very busy w/ locals. Very much fun, lively scene (one of the few lively scenes in FP).

Would recommend, enjoy the island! Make sure you hike to the waterfall!

Room Tip: Get the bay view, premium ones, so nobody is blocking your view.

“Great service, lot of charms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2009

Everything is great but:

- Transfer (totally overpriced, that's a robery but not the fault of the hotel, the taxis drivers are guilty but it is real scandal anyway as you MUST go through them and they forbid any transfer set up by the hotel)
- The noise of the cocks between 2am and 6 am, don't forget your equipment for your ears!
- high profit done on excursions (you can contact directly the operators, you will spare 30-40%...)

That said, again, compare with the others hotels of Polynesia, from far above the others for the price paid. Service is friendly, casual and efficient. The bungalows are awesome but won't protect you from the cocks' noise during the night. It seems to me that the only thing the architects had not anticipated!

A great place to visit Nuku Hiva for not so much (for Polynesia!) and very comfortable.

I definitively recommend the hotel !

“Paradisical!”

My husband and I and 8 friends spent 3 wonderful days and nights at the Nuku Hiva Pearl Lodge in September 2008. The lodge is beautifully situated, overlooking a lovely bay formed by the caldera of an extinct volcano. The small town of Taiohae is an easy walk from the hotel. The individual bungalows are roomy, well-designed, and include an outside deck with a great view and optimal privacy. The hotel staff aim to please and will arrange excursions to archaeological sites and transfers to/from the airport. Our only quibble is that the menu is too long and doesn’t change; it would be better to have a short, changing menu featuring fresh local seafood every night. Wine collection is good and reasonably priced. We miss waking up to a beautiful sunrise over the bay every morning and the crowing of the feral roosters that run loose all over the Marquesas!

  • Liked — Roomy and very comfortable bungalow with optimal privacy and spectacular view
  • Disliked — Menu should change and have fewer items, more local seafood
