We stayed at Tambua Sands for 3 nights as part of our 10-day trip to Fiji 2 weeks ago and just loved it! The location is very nice, fronting the lagoon with tropical backgrounds. The manicured grounds/garden are beautiful with lots of flowers, palm trees, and very well looked after.
We stayed in a beachfront bure and although it was right in the middle of the hot season we all slept well at night, including our 2 ½ year old boy, who could also have his afternoon naps, as there is a big ceiling fan and you can open all sides of the bure (with mosquito nets so no problem).
The food was very good especially the Mahi Mahi with home made potato mash, yum and of course the Kokoda, yum! Very fresh also – as I am pregnant I was a bit worried about the food when we arrived in Fiji, but had no problem at all with the food at Tambua Sands and we had all our meals there during 3 days.
We spent most mornings exploring the lagoon as the tide was coming out. My son could spend hours in the warm waters looking at the fish. There are also sea kayaks that you can use for free and free snorkelling gear – my son loved it too.
And of course a swimming pool but we haven’t used it much, we spent most of our time on the beach - we had the beach for ourselves. You can swim in the lagoon at high tide, no problem, as it is quite deep, perfect for snorkelling too. But I would recommend to wear reef shoes.
Overall, we had a great stay, very relaxing. In the evening we could enjoy the sunset from the restaurant, over the lagoon. It was very private. It was low season, and only 5 bures were occupied, which I think it’s a shame as this little boutique resort really deserves to be better known by visitors to the coral coast. The staff is so genuinely friendly and accommodating and so is the new Manager, Barbara, who would always spend some time discussing with her guests.
The resort is located on the best part of the coral coast. We drove there from Nadi and found that the first 1 ½ hour was not very interesting. But by the time we got to Tambua, we were surrounded by tropical jungle, and magnificent views over the lagoon.
Definitely a good choice if you are looking for a boutique-style accommodation away from the crowds of big resorts.
Although the bures were immaculate and very nice/comfortable, the Manager advised us that they would go through major renovations so keep an eye on this little gem!
For larger families or groups, they also have double interconnecting bures.
