Just recently spent over a week on this beautiful Fiji Island. Only ever intending on staying for 3 to 4 nights, my friend and I finally said our goodbyes to the wonderful staff 8 nights later. (and then it was only because we had to) We had visited the island before but only for the day/night combo cruise and a quick overnighter. Even that was impressive which tempted us to stay for longer this time.
Immediately you are made feel welcome as soon as you hit the Robinson Crusoe jetty by their friendly and welcoming staff. The boat trip is informative and 'fun' and before long you are there, again being greeted by the staff's beautiful smiles, singing and BIG bulas!
We stayed in the island lodge this time as it had just been recently renovated. What a great, spacious room with private ensuite, king size bed/two single beds and a deck to enjoy your morning coffee or the afternoon drinkies while watching the guests and staff play volleyball. (we did play volleyball occasionally but enjoyed the watching more than the playing) Not that you're in your room all that often as there is so much to do and best of all, free! Snorkelling, kayaking, swimming, jungle treks, jewellery making, learning island dances, kava ceremonies, discos and midnight bonfires just to name a few. You can also treat yourselves to spa treatments (of which we did at next to nothing prices) and go fishing at your leisure. We enjoyed our daily walk around the island which takes about 20 minutes, soaking up the beautiful scenery that the island possesses.
The food is to 'die for' with the best traditional lovo lunch and dinners I've ever experienced in my 11 visits to Fiji. The rest of the week is a banquet of island feasts. Great food! Drink prices are also great and many days and nights we enjoyed cocktails, buckets of beer and wine. Not forgetting the local spirits.....
The highlight of our time there was the island's spectacular dance shows, day and night. The night show being extra special, especially when the fire dancers hit the sand dance floor! What a talented bunch of staff they have there. The fishing dance was a favourite of ours and in no time we were dancing along with them, in the crowd and with the dancers.
You often hear the phrase, arrive as guests and leave as friends. Well before you even reach the island, you are treated as friends and it continues well after you've even departed.
We loved our time there so much, we headed back again just before our flight home for another stay. This time in the dorms which were also extremely comfortable and the bucket shower is an experience you don't want to miss.
All in all, we loved the place and it will be on our itinerary now each time we visit Fiji, and more than for just one night. Do the same, you won't regret it!
