“typical for Fijian standards”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Stayed here one night on my way to the Yasawa Islands and found the place to be just average, your normal Fijian service: smiles all around, a bit slow to react, but helpful. Air conditioning, pool, balcony, the room was big enough (even though I was on my own they put me in a room which could accommodate three, with a double and single bed packed in, I don't know if all rooms are the same). On the down side, there was no hot water in the morning, had to have an early start at 7am.
The room 210 was at the end of the wing, which meant quiet, as they were having some entertainment... Every Thu, Sat and Sun, there is a local band playing live music, very much appreciated by the locals. At first it seemed an exclusive gathering, as the audience was a group of about 20 Fijian men drinking kava and dancing, while at the other end of the yard some Australian scouts were having a debriefing, but it didn't take much for the two to mingle.
Overall, I would say it's good for a night, but wouldn't extend the stay.

“Friendly Fijians”

As Lonely Planet guide says, this hotel is middle of the road but putting together price, shuttle service, room, occasional entertainment, grounds, breakfast, and staff, it comes out as a very friendly place. It is hard to tell it is just off a busy road. I read in other reviews that Capricorn didn't work for them, I guess I was lucky. There is a supermarket and fresh fruit and veg merchant just next door. Above all else, I found the staff lovely. In some resorts I find that friendliness can seem a bit forced, like they are trying to create your enjoyment by being so friendly. Here is was genuine and delicate, they are nice, gentle people doing their job.

Room Tip: Email and ask about the rooms, they all have an inner courtyard view but some enter that way and oth...

We have stayed in 5 star to camping in the bush and we found the staff to be absolutey friendly and accomodating, The rooms were cleaned every day, the girls at the desk were lovely. We were there for just over a week and had a ball, at the bar drinking cocktails with other guest, playing pool, swimming, layzing around and best of all on Thursday,Friday and Saturday nights sitting around in the gazebo with the Fijian men and woman listening to them play their instruments, singing and drinking Kava (even though its not very nice) to respect, take in and enjoy their culture after all isn't that one of the reasons for going to another country!

Room Tip: you get what you pay for ground floor rooms 225 and up are quieter converse with the staff Fijians...

“Booked 3 nights & only stayed 1 & dirty place & noisy at night”

After my drama on the Coral Bus from Suva to Nadi & the bus gearbox decided to pack up! I then returned to Nadi in a taxi sharing with 2 female tourists & cost me FJD $50.00 each for a hell of a trip! Anyway I arrived at the Capricorn Fiji Hotel at 7:45pm on the 14/08/11 with my booking receipt [ had booked the same day at my accommodation in Suva], on first impressions the Hotel appears to look good with the outside lighting & water fountain etc. When I arrived at the reception desk & the young lady didn't look that interested who I was & after filling out the guest card with my personal details etc, I then requested to take a look at the room for signing the card, at first I felt that room 221 was OK but very basic without much of any type of view [When booked in Suva I paid FJD $345.00 for the 3 nights with b/fast]. I asked the young lady about the tour desk operator & she informed me that she will rtn in the morning to ask any questions, I then went around the corner to eat at Wishbone / Pizza King, I then decided to retire early at 10pm after my drama returning from Suva, at first I couldn't sleep due to the loud music from around the corner, loud voices & noise from downstairs & I could hear the staff talking & after a restless night I decided to eat b/fast & move to another hotel, the b/fast was VERY VERY BASIC.... repacked my gear & went to reception & explained I'm not happy at the hotel & what's the procedure in getting a refund on the other 2 nights, the same old run around the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing! & promised the refund would be sorted out within a couple of days......10 days later after my return flight from Tarawa in Kiribati to Nadi I checked my c/card statement & no refund, instead they charged me for the first two nights, when I questioned the travel company they informed me that I'd been charged one extra nights cancellation fee for leaving at short notice........ I have travelled to many Pacific Islands in the past & one thing I have learnt if you can avoid don't pay for any accommodation in advance, pay on arrival either cash & some hotels / motels / Hostels whatever may except c/card payment, be careful with the c/card payment many different types of accommodation charge a different c/card fee between 2.5 to 6% & most importantly witness any c/card transaction & don't take your eyes off your card especially if they are still using the old fashioned c/c system & don't use the banks automatic transaction electronic system.......... be careful! The only positive comment about this hotel it's very very close to a bus stop into Nadi town & only cost 70c one way & run approx every 20-30 min's..... the hotel staff need some good PR training especially the manager who I found to be extremely rude & unprofessional............ & never again!

Room Tip: pay on arrival & avoid waiting for refunds if not happy with room or service!

“A little old but a great stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

We decided to spend New Year in Fiji and chose this hotel for the price. The room was large and cleaned daily and there was a good range of facilities in the rooms. The pool was nice and refreshing but we stayed away from the jaccuzzi. Its a short and cheap taxi ride into town which is not a great place and you do have to have your wits about you. The internet in the town is cheap and easy to find but the super markets are not too great. Driving is not as mad as you would expect but try not to do it your self. There is a mcdonalds down the road but we found the resturaunt served pretty good food and at a good price. The bar had plenty of people around it every night and i was happy to sip a few Fiji gold and chat to other guests. This hotel is good for back packers but i would not stay here if it was a one off holiday.
