“a welcome haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

I have been coming to Fiji for years and visit Stoney Creek Resort whenever I get the chance. Its gorgeous mountain surrounds and peaceful setting provide the perfect atmosphere for those of us who have are learning the true meaning of 'holiday'. The food is divine: reasonably priced and a welcome spin on international dishes using fresh, local ingredients. The staff, owners and pets open up to guests in a unique and inclusive manner and take extreme pride in maintaining the quality of the resort. This open nature encourages guests to truly get to know one another, making it a haven for solo travellers who can elect to spend time together or in peaceful solitude on the ample grounds. The cleanliness, attention to detail and perks given to returning or long-stay guests make it feel like the most beautiful home away from home you could ever ask for. Come and visit, your peaceful state of mind when you return home will be all the reassurance you need...

“Eccentric owners, but a positive non-beach Fiji experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

Lots of good things to say about Stoney Creek. The food is excellent, especially the curries and when we arrived over 3 hours late due to ferry delays, Michelle opened the kitchen and cooked especially for us. Our honeymoon bure was excellent with complimentary wine and fruit, a jacuzzi and everything was beautifully clean and well kept. The setting is rural and the views of the mountain ranges were excellent and a change from the beach! However there was still a substantial amount of construction being done on the site which disturbs the rural atmosphere somewhat and Michelle's moods deteriorated significantly over the course of our stay to the point where she was not far off hostile, shame as her staff were lovely. One other point, definitely avoid if you don't like dogs......

“I'd avoid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Even tho the hotel is nice and good value for money, there is no shuttle service as it says on the website. They put you in a taxi which they say they'll pay for and never do. Also the taxi drivers HATE going to this hotel because the roads are so bad, and you'll get a ear bending from everyone of them who has to take you there. There's a major dispute between the owners and the taxi drivers. You'll likely to get ripped of too.

The hotel seems well run, the pool area nice and clean. The food we had on night one was great but the morning we left my husband was desperately ill from what we assumed was food poisoning. We dont know if it was from here but we'd been in fiji 2 weeks and had been fine until his last night. (we'd drunk bottled water all the way!!!)

The rooms in the main house were nice and clean and comfy with good mozzie nets. We also stayed a night in the bure which i didnt like.

We also didnt get much peace as the owner decided to join us most of the time for chats even if he wasnt invited, which ruined our nice relaxing evening. All he spoke about was how the hotel was being expanded and the dispute with the taxi drivers.

“Sanctuary Stoney Creek”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

After trekking around Fiji, Islands and Hinterland, I really needed a place to fall back and regroup. The reviews of Stoney Creek deemed this 'the place'. It certainly was the right one for me.

Initially I booked the Love Shack, a room housed privately in with the dorms, but I decided on arrival to take "Room 1" a private room with private facilities. As a lady who needs to visit the loo (too much information I know) several times a night, the handiness of an ensuite was preferable to going down stairs to the communal one.

The people who go towards making Stoney Creek such a lovely place are wonderful - non intrusive and always respectful. I really wanted to have quiet time and this was granted.

For anyone who is not a 'dog or cat' person, then this is possibly not for you. I welcomed the well behaved pets and enjoyed the thought that the dogs gave a sense of security but I do know that not all think this way. Rather than go there, and critique the place, just find somewhere that is not so pet friendly.

One of the reasons I chose "Sanctuary Stoney Creek" was that I wanted Rural. Yes, and I found it. Def off the beaten path. I had 'done' with shopping and all, just wanted to chill out. Due to the location, there is no choice really, but to eat and drink there. However, I feel that the proprietors have not taken advantage of the prices. Prices are on par with all the resorts, and the meals are very good.

Scenery is breathtaking. I stayed in "Room 1" as a solo traveller, price $125 per night, including the continental breakfast. Love shack is $75 per night, single. The web site has not been updated to the current prices. Phone before you book. I go to Fiji twice a year, next time I will conclude my trip with Stoney Creek for a week. I believe you can get one night free with this.

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

Stoney Creek is in good location to Nadi airport. It is a perfect hideaway in the mountains with beautiful scenery and a tranquil setting. It is a unique setting in comparison to the other beach resorts on the island.
Having stayed there with 2 other friends on the last night of our trip we couldn't have asked for a better way to finish our holiday. The staff could not do more to help us and Michelle, the owner/manager, was the perfect hostess. The food was amazing with a good menu selection. It was great to relax with the resident cats and dogs.
If I was to return to Fiji, I would definitely be staying in Stoney Creek again.
Stoney Creek is a must stay if you are travelling to Fiji and is only 5 minutes (approx) from the airport.
