“Recommend for Short-stay”

After staying on one of the outer islands for two and a half weeks - visiting family, the Aquarius Rarotonga was a breath of fresh air!!!! My family and I (8 persons) had a 14 hour wait for our flight back to NZ, so having the convenience of a two/three minute walk between the hotel and the airport was great!!! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the two Ocean View rooms we were given were very clean and it was so great to be able to have a hot shower and feel thoroughly clean again;0) The dining, pool and beach area have a relaxing feeling - it was great to sit in the hammocks to reminisce about our holiday. The photos on others reviews were a shock to see - while we were there, we saw nothing like those - these things may have been rectified. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short-stay (1-3 nights), Avarua is about a 10-15 min walk - great to keep active;0) The cost of the rooms was also very reasonable. Although my family and I were very impressed with the overall appearance and service of the hotel and its staff the only negative observation I would like to note is the lack of signage advising of after-hours contact with the night duty Manager (most international flights out of Rarotonga are early hours of the morning) as well as fire exits. On departure from the hotel - all doors were locked and we could not get through to the main reception to let someone know we were leaving (we managed to 'jimmy' open one of the side doors to gain access from the outside to bang on the main entry door). Other than that, a great place to stay.

“Pretty Deck Area "Overlooking Pool"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Nice little place, it was quiet when we rocked up for a dinner for 6 people, service I felt really slow and average range of food on the menu. We were never asked how our night was going or if we needed any help or have questions, Please know we only went for dinner however my niece school from Auckland NZ travelled and stayed here and said it was an absolute dream, tidy staff accomodating for their large group

“I'm mixed on this one; great for short-stay given it's right next to airport.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Excellent = IF you're stuck waiting to catch your next flight. This is what I did while waiting 11hours to catch my flight.

They offer short-term stay in their 'dormitory' bunk bed style like a camp. This is newly renovated, so it's clean. Likewise for the toilet IN the dormitory, it is very clean (not the same as the photo posted). Cost $25-$30 NZD.

NOTE that they gave me a bunk which has a piece of paper that says "Please do NOT sit or sleep on the bed". I guess they forgot to take it off.

Good Food at the restaurant. Service can be improved though.

Poor= If you opted to stay here or book other rooms other than the dormitory. The recent ugly bathroom photo is likely the standard rooms they have. Also, this is not a resort where you're next to the beach. I also guess you'd hear the planes fly by if you stay here for the long haul.

“Next to airport”

There is hardly a better place if you come back from the outer islands and want to spend another one or two nights on Rarotonga. It's a two minutes' walk from the entrance to the airport! The view from the large windows looks like a picture of a beach on the wall. No swimming or snorkling in the sea, but there is a pool. Avarua is close. Car/scooter hire 3 minutes. Nice, clean rooms. Some details need repairing: reading lights don't work for example. The rest is ok. There is a restaurant with some simple dishes.

“Handy To Rarotonga Airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

Very convenient place to stay as it is just across from the Airport, especially if you have to fly to an outer island like Aitutaki the next day and you want to rest the night, dorms are only $30. It has a bar, restaurant, pool, it's right by the beach but not for swimming in but to view. The Island Bus stops right outside. Apart from being a great location, the desk staffs were very rude in charging me double, or ripping me off a few times, so make sure you get a receit when paying for your room, even at any hotel/motel.

Room Tip: Great rooms but make sure you get a receit for any payment you make and check your receit for accura...
