“Top Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

Everything about our stay at Aremango was easy. From the 6am transfer and the check in (a sign on the door directing us to our room), to the use of the kitchen, kayak, bikes and bathrooms. It helped that we were there at one of the few times when Aremango wasn't fully booked (thanks to Justin and Kelly's wedding).
Location is great. Access to the beach via a path down at the back of the property, next door to a petrol station (that sporadically served amazing curries) and a short walk into Muri for mopeds and meals.
Rooms are clean, with good storage. Didn't find the noise that some people mentioned, a problem. Shared bathrooms and kitchen were clean and always available, but once again we hit lucky as there weren't many people there during our stay.
Found Muri a nice place to stay, didn't swim out the front in the lagoon, but was a short ride down to Fruits where the snorkeling was fabulous and about 20 mins up to Avarua. A real solid choice for Raro. Enjoy.

“It made our vacation”

We just returned from our ten day vacation to Rarotonga where we stayed at Aremango Guest House on Muri Beach. We had such an amazing time that we did not want to leave. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We got plenty of use from the outdoor shower and the private courtyard was nice when you needed some privacy. We used the kayaks available for a very reasonable price at $10 per day. The close distance to the beach meant that we were swimming every morning and throughout the day. It was also nice to just be able to read a book or take a stroll along the water. There was access to a number of restaurants and cafes as well as grocery stores and activities.
We were highly impressed with the cleanliness of the Aremango faciilities. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and the kitchen was great for helping us to save some money rather than eating out all of the time. It had everything we needed.
We spent alot of time chatting with other guests, having meals and drinks together (although there was plenty of space to spread out if this is not your thing). It seemed to attract very like minded and friendly travellers who just wanted to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the Cook Islands.
The managers and housekeeper where always helpful and friendly. Especially when we always had questions to ask or needed help to learn how to husk a coconut!!!!! Thanks to the three of you!!!!
I have read many of the other reviews and noticed some complaints about the shared bathrooms, timers on ceiling fans and street noise. Sometimes people get a little messy when staying in a shared space but we always found that things were cleaned in a timely manner and the management can't be blamed for not following everyone around with a broom and mop. Our ceiling fan did have a timer but there was also a stand up fan provided for use during the night. We did have the room closest to the road but we slept with the door open and closed the blinds and were not especially disturbed by either the noise or the street light.
We hope to be able to return to Rarotonga and I don't think we could consider staying anywhere else because we would always be comparing it to this experience.

Room Tip: I think I would definitely go for the court yard room due to the privacy and outdoor shower.

“Noise issues at Aremango”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

We are a couple in our late 50's and stayed there 3 nights. The owners left us a note saying that we making too much noise. This was surprising considering we were in bed before 10PM. If you stay there you need to tip toe around at night and be very careful to close your door very very gently, or better yet use only the bathrooms only during the day.

However, our room was right on the road with considerable noise of motorcycles and cars at all hours of day and night. Also the room had poor ventilation, and a bright road light right outside our window. A light and noisy hot room = poor sleep. There was no screen on our sliding glass door. Only 3 shared bathrooms that were all looking very run down. Ceiling fan is on a timer and will shut off after about a hour, apparently electricity is very expensive in Rarotonga. Ants in room, but this was a minor issue.

On the positive side the location in Muri is good, Kelly the manager is pleasant.

Overall-
The price is low and the location in Muri is good, so I am sure for some this would work , but for us the noise hassles and a complaint letter from management made it a poor choice for us.

Note on Cook Islands - prices are very high, food at stores are four times what we pay at home, for vegetables for than 10 times what we pay at home., Hotels price are sky high, Fiji a much better value.
