We just returned from our ten day vacation to Rarotonga where we stayed at Aremango Guest House on Muri Beach. We had such an amazing time that we did not want to leave. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We got plenty of use from the outdoor shower and the private courtyard was nice when you needed some privacy. We used the kayaks available for a very reasonable price at $10 per day. The close distance to the beach meant that we were swimming every morning and throughout the day. It was also nice to just be able to read a book or take a stroll along the water. There was access to a number of restaurants and cafes as well as grocery stores and activities.
We were highly impressed with the cleanliness of the Aremango faciilities. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and the kitchen was great for helping us to save some money rather than eating out all of the time. It had everything we needed.
We spent alot of time chatting with other guests, having meals and drinks together (although there was plenty of space to spread out if this is not your thing). It seemed to attract very like minded and friendly travellers who just wanted to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the Cook Islands.
The managers and housekeeper where always helpful and friendly. Especially when we always had questions to ask or needed help to learn how to husk a coconut!!!!! Thanks to the three of you!!!!
I have read many of the other reviews and noticed some complaints about the shared bathrooms, timers on ceiling fans and street noise. Sometimes people get a little messy when staying in a shared space but we always found that things were cleaned in a timely manner and the management can't be blamed for not following everyone around with a broom and mop. Our ceiling fan did have a timer but there was also a stand up fan provided for use during the night. We did have the room closest to the road but we slept with the door open and closed the blinds and were not especially disturbed by either the noise or the street light.
We hope to be able to return to Rarotonga and I don't think we could consider staying anywhere else because we would always be comparing it to this experience.
