We arrived on December 31st around noon. A street party had blocked all access to the hotel by car. Hotel staff was very helpful and accommodating in providing directions on how to find the parking garage and carrying our luggage to the hotel.

During the afternoon, the street party (at the hotel footsteps) went on with loud music and people spraying each other with cider. It was a little bit too much for us but party-people did not bother us when we walked through them (only got my feet wet). The party ended at 6PM as promised by hotel staff. Then it was quiet and we managed to rest.

4th floor room: we liked the decor, the 20-foot high original ceiling was divided into a lower living-area and an upper loft with the bed. It was comfortable. Good wi-fi. Good parking garage (2 blocks away). Nice breakfast on the panoramic top floor with a great view.

Hotel staff (cafeteria and reception) was courteous and service-oriented.

During this trip, we stayed at the Hotel Klee, Hotel Embajador, Hotel Ibis and Hotel Plaza Fuerte. Plaza Fuerte was the best experience of the four.

Plaza Fuerte is a small hotel next to the old town. The rooms are modernized, but have some strange features, as the bed on the higher level of the room. But altogether a nice experience.

My first room (#401) appeared to have been the center of the social scene for parties, smoking and whatever else might occur at a party. The room smelled of smoke, the carpet was stained and the couch in the living room was not at all welcoming.

I attempted to stay in room and endure the after effects of who knows how many parties. However, once I began to cough I felt I needed to change rooms. I am quite sensitive to cigarette smoke.

My second room (#301) was much better. I read the previous reviews that spoke to the experience of rooms in the same hotel being so different. Trust me, I experienced this reality directly. The second room had an inviting leather couch, dark carpeting that appeared to be clean and central air (first room had two leaking individual air conditioning units).

The front desk service was very good, friendly and helpful. Parking was a breeze. However, given the room conditions, I am unable to recommed this hotel.

Excellent location with many nearby restaurants and bars (safe to walk to at night). Beautiful interior and exterior but the carpets in the room were stained in multiple places and did not seemed to be vaccuumed, ever. Take a three block walk to the riverfront and make your way to the beach, about a 30 minute walk. Overall, would stay again but the hotel needs to invest a few dollars on either new carpet or wood floors for the guest rooms, particularly 404.
