I booked this hotel because it claimed to have WiFi. It didn't work. After 6 complaints over 24 hours the technician finally came to my room. After insisting that the problem was my laptop and that my laptop antenna wasn't strong enough to receive the signal, he reluctantly checked the router in the corridor. Of course, the router wasn't working.
They moved me to another room under the coverage of another router but the connection was terrible. For example, to open just the front page of google.com took 2 minutes. Forget about searching. Frequently my POP mail timed out when checking. I suppose I wouldn't have minded so much if the reception staff had been a bit more understanding but after I had mentioned the original problem they just sniggered amongst themselves as though I was making it up.
On checkout, make sure to check the exchange rates. If you want to pay in local currency and not USD they will charge approx. 15% more than the standard exchange rate.
Breakfast however is generous and the room was clean. Apart from that, I was relieved to move on.
Nice hotel but once they get your money, the personal service is a disaster.
I would definitely avoid it if you have anything important to do online while staying in Montevideo.
