“EXCELLENT LONG-STAY HOTEL.”

We discovered the Bremen a year ago, and stayed 6 weeks. I'm now back again for 2 months this year. Bremen was exactly what I was looking for : a 'hotel' which offered all the advantages of a rented apartment, eg fully equipped kitchenette, washing machine, wi-fi connection (they even provide you with a local mobile phone) plus laundry/maid service.
Very central location too, and only a few blocks from the Rambla. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. I immediately felt 'at home', and hope to return here every time I come to Montevideo.
Would especially recommend the Bremen for longer stays.

“Disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2011

First - the picture you see of the building on the internet is not necessairly where you will be staying. The hotel consists of 3 seperate buidlings. We booked a 3 bedroom apt and entered through a side door that looked like it was part of a business. The apt smelled of stale cigarettes and mold. There was mold all over the bathroom. No top sheets on the bed. Had to use the comforter for cover and who knows when it was last washed. The refrigerator kept the food warm not cold. The AC was on a 30 minute timer - had to climb on a chair to start it again every time it would go off. The 3rd bedroom was outside the apt. the door would not close. It rained that night and the floor of the room was wet in the morning.

“Comfortable apartment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2009

My husband and I stayed for 3 months in Apart Hotel Bremen. The apartment was well equipped and maintained. As we stayed in MV during the winter months we appreciated that the heating system worked well. Ricardo, the manager, and his wife Sylvia have been the most kind and helpful people you can wish for. We had medical emergencies and could certainly not have handled them without their precious help. We left Uruguay with two new friends in our life.
The only draw back to the Hotel is the neighbourhood (drug users + alcoholics) and the traffic noice is pretty heavy at times. Despite these negatives we would return to Hotel Bremen.

“We will stay at the Bremen each time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2007

We wanted a place in Montevideo that would approximate a home, and the Bremen was it for us. We travelled with two children, and it was very important for us to have a full kitchen in order to cook our meals at home. We were very comfortable at the Bremen and play to stay there again on our yearly trips to Montevideo.

We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment, and it was more than enough for the four of us. The living room/kitchen was spacious, with good light coming in through the windows. The kitchen had a four-burner stove and oven, full silverware, plates, pots and pans, and a good size fridge.

The apartment was cleaned very well, including the dishes being washed, every day except Sunday. The beds were made, the towels changed if you left them on the floor, and everything swept up and freshened.

The apartments include a safe, tv with cable, radio and cd player, internet access, telephone with a direct inward dial number, plenty of lighting, etc. The Bremen is located in a pintoresque neighborhood, with a great small bakery one block away. There's an excellent fruit and vegetable stand nearby, as well as a pasta store, cafes along San José Street, and access to plenty of buses to take you anywhere in the city.

The Bremen's staff are very prompt to respond to any concerns, and the price is quite fair. We were pleasantly surprised at the value we got for the money, and were very happy with the accommodations and treatment we received. We'll stay again for sure.

“Fantastic deal!”

We were looking for a place to call home for a short time near the center of Montevideo, and ApartHotel Bremen turned out to be the perfect choice. Not only was our apartment large, it had a full kitchen (ok, no dishwasher, but full-sized stove and refrigerator, conventional oven as well as microwave, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, flatware), ample, well-furnished living room with dining table and desk with DSL hookup, a great bathroom with fine shower, two sinks, and even a washer/dryer! And the bedroom, of course, and closet space. Large windows, high ceilings, ornate woodwork, skylights, German ambience in the Middle of Montevideo, Uruguay. Towels and bedding also included. Even umbrellas for the one day it rained. Oh, yes, and not to forget cable TV (including HBO, Cinemax, and several other English-language channels)and DID telephone. I do not know the total number of apartments, but there are several buildings and the office is a few doors up from the building we stayed in on Aquiles Lanza.

The neighborhood seems safe enough (we had no problems in two weeks), but there is a depressing air about parts of it. However, within 5 blocks are Avenida 18 de Julio (pretty much the city's main thoroughfare), the city hall (Intendencia) with its observatory and municipal photography museum, great shopping and eating, supermarkets, and a beach (that may be more than 5 blocks.) Taxis are everywhere and several busstops are literally steps from the hotel. The manager, Ricardo, is fluent in German and English as well as Spanish, and is both delightful and a wealth of information.

The price for all this? I don't know about Summer, but in the middle of the Uruguayan Spring it cost $35 per night! Breakfast not included. I don't recall whether taxes were included. ApartHotel Bremen was a wonderful experience and a great introduction to life in Montevideo.
