Well, first of all, location is perfect is you want to be in downtown (which you probably want, despite the fact that some other areas of MVD are "nicer", but also have lower density of street life and restaurants, etc.).
The room was fairly dirty, e.g., with trash on the old carpets, with a long strand of hair under the toothbrush glass, etc, and other obvious signs of insufficient cleaning. I asked for the room to be vacuum cleaned, and whether or not it was done was not obvious. Clearly, because of dirty carpets and the general dirtyness, you probably don't want small children lurking around your room. As for me, I am not too picky and I got used to the dirt after a while.
Reception service is OK but not more. You get the information you ask for, but not more. Basically, the people in the reception seem overworked and therefore cannot be enthusiastic, but they'll get the job done.
The rooms are old and therefore with high ceilings, old furniture, etc. Few hangers; generally not high standard, but, again, gets the job done if you are not too picky. No safe. Patchy WiFi, which you sometimes cannot get to work, and sometimes you can.
Worst: the "breakfast": some old piece of bread with butter and/or jam (I don't remeber) and tea/coffee. But ... the service here was absolutely atrocious and the food was bad, so I obviously did not try breakfast the other days despite "breakfast" being included (maybe this is their business plan?). Fortunately you are in downtown and can have brunch in a bar. The "Manchester" grill/bar/cafeteria serves entirely OK steaks, for example.
Would I stay there again? Well, I extended my stay with a couple of days instead of trying to find another hotel and lugging my bags around. So, I might stay there again in the unlikely case I go back to MVD. However, if so, there are some nice-looking 4-stars with decent prices nearby (some don't appear on Tripadvisor) which I would probably try first.
Concerning the numerical ratings below: "Service" is "average" for reception staff and "terrible" for breakfast staff, hence "poor".
