“Nice hotel well located”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I booked in this hotel because it seemed affordable and everything else was booked. The place is not the best hotel in Montevideo, despite the luxurious entrance, but the rooms are clean, breakfast is good and is very well located from the Ciudad Vieja (downtown) where most of the touristic places are. The receptionists are friendly and willing to help. A lot of the restaurants reviewed in the lonely plane are in a block distance from the hotel.
Is true that the hotel is a little bit old and some rooms can be noisy. But in general is a good place to stay for a family, couples or solo.

“A very reasonable price-quality hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

From the moment we arrived, until the last moment we left, the Oxford personnel were very friendly, kind, and helpful with all our needs. The bed was very comfortable, the room had a 32'' TV, very clean. Probably the bathroom could be better (it is a little bit old). Our room didn't have a view, but we weren't looking for one. The breakfast had a lot of stuff to choose from, and the room service prices were very coherent.

“nice location”

Surely it's not a 3 * hotel. Very poor reception. They are more interested in exchanging money and sell tours than anything else. Inspite the room and the bath is reasonable, you 've to ask reception to turn on and off the air, and carry your own luggage through a tiny and slow elevator. The breakfast is fair, but always the same. They have free internet at the reception, but the parking space was charged U$ 10,00 a day. The location it's really the best, one block from 18 de Julio Av (the main street),several restaurants around and a walking distance to the old sites and market.. I've stayed 3 nights with my wife (19 to 22 of May, 2011). Levy Lempert, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

“Believe it or not"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

Believe it or not: Besides the horrible hygienic condition, whenever you need to change the air-conditioning temperature, you must call the concierge in order he himself sets it. There is only one remote control for all the bedrooms, I guess. The linens were dirty and smashed. There were flies over the bread in the breakfast buffet and I was awarded with a dead mosquito in my tea cup. The only good thing about Oxford Hotel is that the staff is polite.

“Forget European and American standars, for S. America it's a very good value hotel”

I'm in Oxford hotel right now. It's my second day in Montevideo and I can say this hotel is a good option if you don't want to expend much money and have good night of sleep.
The room could be bigger, but it's clean, the bathroom is good and indeed I have good internet connection for basic usage (forget youtube).
The personnel is awesome and help you in every single thing you want. Indeed, there are people that speaks very good English and even Portuguese all the time.
About being 4-star, forget the american and european standards. For Montevideo it's a 4-star hotel.
It's good option for those that are not searching for luxury (It's my case).
