Start with rude, nasty front desk clerks and slide downhill. We waited 30 minutes to check in with nobody in front of us because it was between shifts. In the front window the lobby looked out into a full dumpster of garbage. The front doors were broken, the windows covered with ick, the furnishings, walls, carpeting were battered and worn. The elevator was the worst until we walked into our "best room in the hotel".
We stay in hostels as well as fine hotels and realize you get what you pay for. This was the exception!! It was three stars of nothing; even the glasses in the mini bar were filthy as was everything else. A tissue thin worn out sheet, dirty blanket on a soft old bed. Nothing worked...the water pressure not enough to shower. We did not want to touch anything. Do NOT stay in this dump

I am worried having read some of the other reviews I am not sure if over the years of travelling I have lower expectations than some. This hotel is fine for the price. My room was clean and tidy with aircon. The staff were helpful. Breakfast was good. I was on the 8th floor so street noise no problem and the location is great for walking round Montevideo. I hasten to add I score the hotel on what I pay and value for money. Yes I have stayed in some of the finest hotels in the world but that is not what I was booking in this case. I try to review with an open mind balancing cost agains quality and this hotel does very well on that basis. Wifi in all rooms is a bonus

Probably my worst hotel experience in 14 years of traveling in Latin America, it is hard to know where to begin when advising people why not to stay here. The surly front desk manager who kept up waiting for nearly an hour beyond the advertised check-out time and then refused to let me check out until she had "examined" the room even though I had paid in advance? The filthy, torn and stained carpets? The never-washed sheets? The dirty bathrooms lacking towels? The broken air air conditioning? The walls caked with a residue of what looked like a fire? Some of the younger guys on the staff try hard to be helpful, but there is obviously some rot at the top here and within the hotel as well. Plunk down some extra change for the Ibis in town or something. You will be much happier.

The hotel is old and needs to be completely renovated. Moreover, it totally lacks hygiene and cleaning service is horrible. On the breakfeast, knives, forks and spoons, cups and glasses were not washed very well, so you could see small pieces of food and dirtyness still attached to them. To make things worse, they served bread with mold (fungus). The carpet was completely dirty and torn. Very noisy place.
