“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

This hotel was a special part of my trip to Montevideo,UY, first of all cost/effective. The rooms are huge and clean, with new furnitures and amenities. The bathroom was always brighting and the towels were changed as you wished. The hotel facilities were nice with a beatiful lounge / living room and both the swimming pool and jacuzzi-spa were perfect. Friendly and helpful staff who spoke good english and understood any portuguese we needed. Breakfast with good food, but not amazing. The best neighb´hood in all montevideo. near to restaurants, exchanges and road to Punta del esta. We recommend it for sure and hope to come back soon.

“Wonderful. wonderful, wonderful”

I have stayed at this hotel many, many, many times between 2004 and 2007. The staff is absolutely WONDERFUL. They are very service oriented. Many colleagues have stayed at this hotel over the years and I have never heard an unkind word.

The hotel is in Carrasco, which is an affluent neighborhood about 10-15 minutes from the center of town by taxi. Of course, be careful in the taxis. It is a road race. But, otherwise it is a safe way to get around the city and not at all expensive. We were never charged a commission by the hotel to call a taxi - EVER. You can even call one yourself from the room. However, it is true that there is a taxi stand just around the corner from the hotel, also.

There is a small restaurant downstairs that serves a very good breakfast buffet in the morning with wondeful coffee. We mostly went out to eat, but on occassion we would stay in and dine at this restaurant. No complaints at all. The food and service were outstanding. Carrasco has a few neighborhood restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. The most obvious is Don Pepperoni just across the street. La Paciva has great hot dogs and pizza. But, ask about the Mexican restaurant a few miles away - Hacienda las Palomas - you shouldn't miss it. It is seasonal, however. You can walk because Carrasco is quite safe. But it is quite a trek from the hotel.

I cannot rate this hotel high enough. Wonderful, large rooms - some with great views. Every inch of the hotel is spotless. And every staff member deserves 5 gold stars!

“A disappointment”

We paid $140 through the tourist office which I think is higher than it should be. We thought the hotel was charming in decor and did remind us of England- it even does afternoon tea! The only reason we booked this hotel was because it is very near to the airport and we thought we could save money on the taxi rather than going from the Radisson. We asked the hotel to call a taxi (big mistake) to the airport and in 5 mins we were there. Imagine our shock to be asked for 290 pesos when if the journey was on a meter it wouldn´t have come to 100 pesos. Yes we admit that we should have checked first but as it was a radio taxi we assumed that the meter was on. Please learn from our mistake, there are taxis round the corner from the hotel which we didn´t see that you can flag yourself so you are not paying the commission to the hotel.
